Chocolate King a Cali King?

So I bought a little king snake on Saturday, she was listed as a Striped Chocolate King. I'd planned on buying a MBK, but fell in love with her instead. Since it was an impulse buy I didn't do the research I should have, now I'm struggling to catch up. I'm pretty sure she is just a pretty solid colored California King, with a pretty light stripe pattern. But when I posted her on Iherp, someone questioned that she would be a California King.

Does anyone have any ideas? And any links to caresheets would be useful. I understand if she is a cali king, she'll get bigger then a MBK, but will otherwise need the same heating and housing.

Here she is:

I'm sorry I can't help in identifying it... but I can let you know that I think it was a GREAT impulse buy. LOL. I think it is quite the looker!

I see the stripe you are talking about.. I'm wondering if anyone has produced a stripe MBK. Lol. Unless someone can give you a sure answer I guess only time will tell.

I would say, using my infinite wisdom, that it is a Cal King. Usually the snakes I have seen called chocolate are in fact brown Cal Kings. It is an aberrant form, as solid any color is not the wild form.

As for care, just treat it like a corn snake. I have several Cal Kings and they like to hide more than the corns but other than that I don’t treat them any different.

It’s a nice snake regardless of what you choose to call it.

Thanks Wade! I was just hoping she wasn't some other type of snake that would need some particular complicated care that I might mess up before I could figure out what she was! She seems to like her enclosure, and she comes out to investigate and try to find a way out!

I vote Cali King, too. But I'm telling you- PM Chris, Tyflier, and have him take a look at her! He knows the Cali localities very well.

I second that, but you can also try Terri (crackerhead). She had them at her booth, and I'm sure she knows about them. Heck, Terri knows everything!

The biggest difference between a Cal and a corn is feeding response. One of these years, I'm gonna be done with getula. Too many "taste bites" that result in their deciding my forearms or fingers are indeed delicious! Robbie has a female I'd love to breed to a male of mine just too see if every hateling carried the "the world is my buffet" trait. But they'd probably just eat each other when paired up...

Huh.. I always thought the Cal Kings got a little bigger. Oh well, I knew the MBK's stayed around the 4 foot range. I also did my research on MBK's much more thoroughly than Cal Kings because I have some. Lol

Cal kings can get in the 5' range. Bigger than the "average" MBK...

*Most* "chocolate kings" are Cali kings. Black bellies, and some other wierd locality morphs exist. Kind of like the original Okeetee or Miami. In captivity they are usually called "chocolate" kings unless they are pure locality animals. And you would know it if you paid the price for a premium locality Cal king...

I can't see the picture well enough to know for sure, though...it's too dark to see any detail on my monitor...
