Colonel Slithers Jun '08 Abbott's Okeetee - Progression Thread!

Oooh I've got something else to update on:

He has not made a move to strike at me since I first got him. I can even touch his head now and he doesn't care. He is a very laid back, shy guy.

That's super positve! ;) You'll most likely be lucky, and have a super beautiful 4-5' long Okeetee who's laid back and friendly. It doesn't get too much better than that...

Dan :)

I can't wait for him to be full grown! I want a monster corn. He gobbled up another hopper today so I'm well on my way.

they usually start turnin a bluey transparent color before sheddin and the eyes will cloud over big bowl of water will help him out nicely....

Nice Abbott Okeetee you got there Jen. I've had a lot of fun watching him grow, but I have a question where did you get the thermometer/hygrometer combo and the rheostat or whatever its called, It's getting hot down here in the SW so I need to do some temp control. Thanks! bye

Ahhhh I found the word for it, not a rheostat but a thermostat lol. If you have no idea what I'm talking about I posted in the wrong place is a few posts above ^:D

I really like your snakey, you (and him) made me want an abbott's (or two)... Now I just have to persuade my boyfriend of letting me have more snakes :)
Great animal!

I got the thermometer/hygrometer at Wal-Mart, believe it or not. They are by the hardware / scales etc. The thermostat I got from Petco, it goes for 50 bucks but I actually got one for $30 because of their moving across the street sale.

Yesss!!! More snakes!! Good luck with the convincing. I haven't been able to convince my husband to let me get more, YET. I think we have to move first and then I want a snake room! That is my dream at least...

This is typically what I get to see when I sneak in at night...

I love the look of the viv. How do u get the vine to hang onto the side that doesnt have a tree or something to attach to, if that makes any sense. like is the vine attached to the glass and if it is how. :)

Thanks. The vine is wrapped around the branch you can see on the right, the part that is out of the picture is a suction cup on the left wall of the tank. It is wrapped around the loop of the suction cup. I got a pack of 4 suction cups from the pet shop for about $1.50. Best money ever spent.

The colonel is starting to go blue again! It has only been a month, but he is growing bigger since I've been giving him hoppers (he has downed 4 now). I wish I had a scale... I think I'll order one.

The only way I could tell he was bigger was by watching him just now cram himself into the upside down flower pot. The hole is barely big enough, he is getting too fat to fit through!

Shed time!!!

Col. Slithers shed yesterday and ate today. He is getting bigger!!!

He really didn't want to stay still, but here are the best shots I could get:

Hay any more mice?

My scale finally came!!!!!!!!

I got one of those MyWeigh 7001Dx scales after returning a cheaply made scale back to the kitchen store. It was a $30 piece of crap. This one was only $33.95 with shipping included from www.saveonscales.com. I can't remember who originally posted this, but thanks!! I tried to buy from the link posted, but they were on backorder. This was the cheapest I could find. I am impressed! It is a rugged little thing. I am pretty picky as I work in a lab with nice scales all day. I might bring it to work and check the calibration with some precision weights.

So, Colonel Slithers is officially 67 grams and still pounding the hoppers. Now I can track his weight and the weight of his food and make a graph, yay!

I can't wait until his food size goes up, just means I am that much closer to a monster snake! I want him to be HUGE!!!
