So i arrived home after work and look in the cage and what do i see my brand new baby goldust motley DEAD upside down on his back not a twitch left in him. i hadn't even got to hold him since he arrived from graham at strange cargo on THURSDAY JUST 2 DAYS AGO as i just opened up his deli cup so he could crawl out on his own free time and do as he pleased. and now hes dead before i could even hold him truly one of the saddest days of my life. he was so adorable and he didn't last 2 days w me. In devastated and my girlfriend is crying. i must get another goldust motley to replace him hes was gorgeous and i was already in love w him. his cage was set up the same as the okeetee i got from strange cargo in the same shipment and the okeetee is doing great all over exploring lovin life. cage was fine used ASPEN as substrate plenty of hides and vines and water. He never got out of his vine not once that i saw always in the same spot same position. he was a newborn hatchling just a few days old i dont know if it was because he was so young and got to stressed w the shipping from Texas to California where i live. im not sure but im devastated I MUST REPLACE HIM ASAP. here are some pictures

So sorry for your loss, it is very hard I know, unfortunately sometimes they just are not meant to be. (((((HUGS)))))

Was just talking to you in chat. That is a shame I do wish you the best of luck with finding another one to please the girlfriend.

"he was a newborn hatchling just a few days old i dont know if it was because he was so young and got to stressed w the shipping from Texas to California where i live."

Could easily be both. I have a rule: NEVER buy a snake younger than one month with fewer than 3 voluntary feedings.

Sorry for your loss, and I wish you luck in finding another. Maybe try finding one that's half a year old to avoid this.

I'm sure you didn't do anything wrong. Sometimes that just happens. Did you tell Graham? He would want to know.

I am so sorry for the poor little guy ): It is so heart breaking when you lose one and you dont know why.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. It's especially hard when the reason isn't clear. ((hugs))

I think that's a good idea. I've never heard anything but good things about Strange Cargo.

I'm sure the seller wouldn't be shipping babes if this was known to be a general problem.

However, if your babe was only a few days old then he won't have been eating yet - they usually take their first feed after shedding, which happens 7-10 days after hatching. If following the same sort of sales policy as others, he may have been cheaper as he was sold "Out Of Egg" i.e. not a guaranteed feeder. I'm afraid this is sadly an additional risk you run in choosing to buy a babe that's not an established eater. Hence a lower purchase price. To lessen the risk, I'd agree with Shenzi that your next purchase should have taken at least three feeds of defrosted pinks.

Hatchlings are always a risk - some can die for no apparent reason as developmental problems only affect them when they grow. It won't have been anything that either you or the seller could predict or prevent. With something this young that has no track record of eating, there's another layer of risk on top.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. It's very rough to start with a loss.

I'm sorry for you loss. Maybe you should go and post in the corns wanted section and see if anyone here has a snake to replace the one that passed.

Talk to Graham before you go searching... It happens sometimes... I have had a baby show up from a really well known name with great animals, dead.. Sometimes it happens, and please understand stress affects the animals differently and individually.. Some do well, and some just sucumb to it easily...

You need to tell Graham cause he is a very very good person, he would not ever sell or give a snake to anyone knowing that there was something wrong with it. He also packs snakes very well so I don't know what happened. Didn't you get another corn with that one?
John

i did get another corn w that one a halloween okeetee and she is doing great exploring and lovin life. i dont blame him or myself as i know i took care of my baby and gave his a good home temps were right etc. i have emailed graham and just awaiting a reply. i HAVE to get a new one my girlfriend has been crying since i found him but i am goin to wait til i hear back from graham

Graham works away from the house for several days at a time but I'm sure he will contact you as soon as he gets back.
John

Don't forget Graham works on an oil rig and may not be able to respond instantly. I know it is heartbreaking- but some babies just don't make it. I'm sorry.

Thank you nancit for letting me know that. im so sad and all your condolences have helped me now i gotta figure out how to help the girlfriend

I'm sorry for your loss. Take it from me, it's sad but not all hatchlings are meant to live... just a risk you take with babies. May I ask why you put the body in water?

alot of breeder like to she that they are really dead and not just trying to get a free snake so to show them they as for one on a pencil and one in the water
