I've had my cornsnake for about a year now, he's roughly 27 inches, and has always been a healthy eater. The past few times I've fed him ( Assuming its a him, he's not big enough to sex yet I don't think ) he just bites it and starts eating it. He doesn't bother constricting, or even really striking the prey anymore, he just sorta eats it without grabbing it. He didn't used to do this. Should I be concerned? Or is my snake just being lazy? Or what? Thanks.
 
Energy is a highly valued commodity for ectotherms. Your snake has figured out that there's no need to waste energy constricting already-still prey. That's nothing to worry about, but if you want him to get the exercise of constricting, you can move the mouse around with tongs, forceps something similar. The ever popular "zombie mouse dance" will usually result in constriction.
 
With the boas and BPs I have on pre-killed, once they strike, I usually give a little tug back just to induce a constricting response. It usually works, and they put up a great fight!
 
That's cool, Robbie. A word of caution about pulling on prey with a corn, though - don't damage any teeth in the process! Nobody wants a mouth infection.
