Could my Snake be Dying???

You can! Unless you have given away took much in the last 24 hours! And yes I am awesome!

Haha I have given away too much in the last 24 hours. And, I guess on the first day I used the forum I gave you some, so now it says I have to "spread it around". hahaha

Also... I will have to use this thing more often -

It does! Especially when you are caring for them properly...

This is what gets everybody fired up. You won't admit that you were wrong. You don't really even have to do that...just don't try to rub it in our faces that everything was OK in the first place. It wasn't. David, help the girl out...you were really good at this same tactic back in the day. Stop saying everything was fine and just continue to fix the problems. Easy enough...

Well I believe that I will do whatever I see fit in the future...

Fine. Just do us a favor and DON'T tell us...cause frankly I am better off not knowing and sleeping at night.

(refering to anoles)
I raise them outside in our sunroom.

You do know that the light from windows does not have the proper UVA right?

I have the swine flu. No joke. I have to stay home and not go out.

...

As far as a room heater goes, that sounds fine, although I personally don't agree and think snakes need belly heat, ambiant room is what the big dogs use. However I feel sorry for you if they are in your bedroom...going to make it tough to sleep that warm!

Um, actually post like YOURS is what gets people fired up. I mentioned earlier everything I did wrong, and I was not talking about my snakes when I said that... I was talking about other experiences. So... read the whole thread before making these comments and alot of arguing would be cut out, since I already admitted I was wrong. :)

I already told her Airenlow. Whippet many breeders including BHB use a room heater. I used to use a room heater but my room became unbearable so I got some heat tape!

Sunroom= screen porch with full sunlight.

Yep, thats why I am gonna cut it off at night during the summer and only leave it on in the winter. The temps in my room JUST NOW got up to 84, so I shut off the heater and just opened a window. Its cooling down, but not to much. Hopefully it will stay about 80ish.

Airenlow: Your picture rocks. I can't wait to see that movie.

As for everyone else, she has corrected the problem and know what was wrong. The snakes are now being properly cared for and will benefit in the future. I'm sure that she will make sure that they are healthy and use the information that has been so passionately provided to her. She seems like an intelligent girl! Look at her links.. she writes for a newspaper (or something!! haha).
Not everyone is given the opportunities that a lot of us are. I'm sure a great deal of you have a lot of reptile experience. I know I do, my mother and I both used to work at a pet store (one of the good ones!) and she's a biologist! Think about how easy it would be to be misled by pet stores and all of the literature on the internet that is dated and incorrect.

The snakes are fine, she admitted her mistakes, all is well.

It's a newspaper. The blog is just a "companion" to it =)

And yes, I admitted the mistakes I made and will try to fix those. The heater is off now with the window open and its 82. I may just start leaving a window open, cause the space heater really heated up my room to about 90 before I shut if off. In winter, I'm sure it will be used a great deal.

For your own sanity, you may want to make a list of things that you need for the snakes...

UTH
Rheostat or Thermostat
Good thermometer -- either a good dual-zone one, or a epic infra-red one of spastic temp-taking awesomeness (can you tell which one i have? )

OR OR OR!!!!

Maybe you could ask for a Rack for your next big gift giving holiday?

The one I have that is the same as the one that Nanci has, well, it's awesome, you can see your corns.... well.... one moment, picture time!

THEN you can get a thermostat for that, it has heat, it takes up less floor space, it has room for STUFF in it....

I love my racks, and really, if you are going to go for BUYING things.... SO WORTH IT!!!

*grabs camera*

BRB!

Here it is!

SO worth it... oh yeah, and there are room for MORE in it! Trust me, you'll need it... :)

I don't need a rhetostat, I have a thermometer my mom got from her work. It has suction cup probe things. They used it to make sure shots are cold enough.

As I have stated this WHOLE time, I don't need UTH's now because I have my space heater.

The thermometer won't control the temperature, just register it. Unless you are there all the time the heater is on, you will be risking your snakes getting too hot.

Right. Because you want to ALWAYS use room heat?

Or is that just another way to change the conditions until you can get some less-cumbersome methods?

As MAYBE you noticed, I didn't jump on you... and a Rheostat is similar to a Lamp Dimmer...

So posting things that would be MORE space/electricity/time efficient MUST be me picking on you, right? Things to change when you have the ability to? Ideas for OTHER ways to set up your corns so that you can not only provide for them in the best manner possible, but *gasp* have room for MORE?!?

Ok.

Gotcha.

Carry on.

Yes and I said that the big breeders do it, I just personally don't agree. However, no one lives in those rooms. They stay at one temp all the time.

Having the temps change drastically is not a great idea for your snake. I would also point out to your parents that while this will work...it is going to be much more expensive on the power bill than buying 3 UTHs. And you really are going to have to keep it at one tempurature. Going up and down is more harmful than good.

It's a newspaper. The blog is just a "companion" to it =)

Exactly the problem...in one day you went from the mid to upper 70s to 90 and back down. That is going to cause problems for both them and you, since you have the swine flu and all. :awcrap:

As I have stated this WHOLE time, I don't need UTH's now because I have my space heater.

Heating the whole room does work...but not the way you are doing it. You really need something that will get to one tempurature and then stay there. Living in that room with them will not be comfortable for you. These types of set ups are best for professionals or at least those with a sealed room that is used for only that purpose.

We are not trying to be jerks. We are trying to help you see how to give your pets the best care possible. :poke:

I understand Whippet, but there is no possible way at all that I can get UTH's. No. Possible. Way. The heater will have to work. I turned it off earlier (got too hot) and kept my window open. The temperature is 81.5 now. I will try to get UTH's when I can, which may be after I graduate high school and get a job, but until then the heater will have to work. The snakes should be okay until then.
