Couple Snakes

Looks like coconut husk chips. Very soft and lightweight. But they don't absorb poo/pee very well, in my experience.

Google suppliers. I used to buy it in pet shops. But I switched to aspen as it did not absorb very well unless you used half a bag per cage and tightly packed it lol.

It does look and feel lovely though. If I were a snake, I'd love the coco husk compared to dusty shredded aspen. BUT aspen is practical, cheap and still allows snakes to practice burrowing behaviours.

David-
Elle is correct, it is coconut bark chunks. I typically use the shredded fibers, but ran out, so I got a bag of the chunks. The chunks don't absorb moisture as well as the fine shredded fibers, but it still looks nice.

I can't use any sort of wood shavings as a substrate. It seriously exacerbates my daughter's asthma. Even with as little dust as you find in aspen shavings, it causes horrible asthma attacks, so we don't use any wood shavings for anything...

Elle, you old stinky rat!

Excuse me. I don't think you know me well enough and vice versa for you to think you can throw "friendly" insults at me. I don't appreciate that, at all.

You asked a question, I answered it. Therefore I think old stinky rat is entirely uncalled for.

The fibres are lovely! Do you use the one you expand yourself in water that comes in small blocks? I absolutly love making that stuff. The smell, the texture, the feel of it under your fingernails! Bliss. And my BRB seems to adore it too ;)

Elle, I was answering Wade's question. LOL Wade asked it was Chris or Elle that said it was coco fiber. I said Elle, then insulted Wade back.

HaHaHa... You better make sure your careful not to insult the wrong people on accident. I'd like to see you stick around on this forum. ;)

I use the compressed bricks for boids and the loose, dry fibers for colubrids.

As for the "friendly insults"...I don't see the point. Name calling is name calling. When I signed up to be a member here, it was against the rules to call another member of this forum a derogatory name. Calling someone "excrement" is uncaled for an against the rules, regardless of the intent behind it. In fact, some might very reasonably call it intentionally incendiary...

Chris, there is alot of joking on the forum. Wade and I are friends and I see it as joking around.

That's not really the point. Obviously it was a joke. However, it can easily turn bad, as you saw once you tried to involve Elle. TBH, I thought you called Elle a stinky old rat, too, but I do see what you actually meant after re-reading. People don't always read things the way they are intended, especially on this forum. There are even people that like to twist things around and take things the wrong way and out of context intentionally, just to be a git...

That's why the rules are what they are. The rules say "No name calling". The rules don't say "No name calling unless you are joking around"...

But what do I care? Do what you want. It ain't my forum...

True, I mean I think that forums need to be as gently moderated as possible so people don't feel like there is this looming force that sits over them. I will try to be more aware in the future, Chris.

Why? I'm not a moderator. I just said I didn't see the point. I don't really care what you or anyone else does here...or anywhere else, for that matter... :shrugs:
