Crotalus viridis helleri

Anytime I have an encounter with a hot, I do flips.. Believe me, the last thing I want is my ole butt to get bit.. Although I truely suspect some day I am going to be tagged, hopefully its a dry one, as I really try to respect these guys..

I have an aquantance that was biten by a Helleri.. Needless to say, that hand is pretty messed up.. I have another friend that was bite by his Stilletto snake.. Esssshh.. Of course I really don't intend to become a Stat..

Regards.. Tim of T and J

Isn't his name Myke? (The Stiletto Snake bite) He was featured in Discovery's show I was Bitten. That was really unfortunate what happened to him. I don't wish that on anybody.

The snake you posted (albeit it's several months old) is beautiful. :) I hope you don't get bitten by a hot.

Yeah, thats Myke.. *lol* He is the reason why we got into corns in the first place! Known him for probably 7 or 8 years now..

Believe me, I try my darndest not to get my self into the problem of getting a bite, but sometimes we never can quite tell, they all have their own personalities, just like our little corns!

That is really cool that he got you into Corns! He is/was a member of another forum that I'm a member of, and posted up a link of his Myspace. I saw the story there. It's insane how much money one bite cost him - not to mention the pain he was in.

That's definitely true. I just hope you manage to get lucky and not get tagged. :)

Hey Tim, I gotta ask ya... is "Regards.. Tim of T and J " part of your sig, or do you type it in each time?

Coolness! They certainly look different from our local rattlers.

That's what I was thinking! They are so exotic! Our three are so easy to ID with very clear patterns. I'd be lost out west!

Nice finds, Tim and Graham. I don't have any rattlesnake pics, not sure why.

Fresh type job everytime.. Not part of my Sig..

Tim, I gotta ask more... is it an OCD type thing or do you sometimes leave it out (and I've missed it)? Also, is that an albino pacman frog in yer avatar? To bring this back to subject, just caught a baby rattler, will post as soon as I can resize...

When was the last time you saw Myke, Tim? I haven't seen him since the NARBC in '08, and his thumb was still massively jacked even than. Has it gotten any better, or is it likely to just be done for?

I have a 3 friends that have been tagged by Cali Crots. One was a dry bite from a Southwestern Speckled, one from an atrox, and one was tagged twice by a Panamint. The atrox was the worst. He ended up having an allergic reaction to the antivenin, which was worse than the bite, and was in intensive care for a while...No lasting scars, though...

I have no interest in joining that particular bite club. The end of a hook or pair of tongs is close enough for me...

Tim, I'm not really familiar with Stilettos so I looked it up and this pic came up of a bite:
To call this nasty would be an understatement of infinite proportions.

CAUTION VERY GRAPHIC PICTURE OF A THUMB BITE.

That's Myke Clarkson's thumb. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy that Tim is referring to, as he lives in SoCal, and, as far as I know, is the only known and documented survivor of a Stiletto bite. His was really the first case of a bite with any sort of medical record of the reaction. Nasty...

Not OCD.. *LOL* My mind wanders to much for OCD.. *lol* More like ADD.. Sometimes Chip, when I am cranky, my sign off changes a bit, but not very often ..Yes, you guessed the eye on my Avatar.. We only have two wittle froggies at this point...

Chris mentioned..

Yippers, thats Mr Clarksons thumb.. If you do some looking around, Myke is pretty fortunante.. The up side of this event, is that he provided a lot of information for the Dr's here concerning the type of snake bite.. I told Myke a few weeks before he got tagged he was crazy to keep those kind of hots, since the antivenom had to be pratically non existant here in Cali.. I run into Myke three to four times a year, and occasionally give him a call to BS over nothing really, and see how things are going.. I really need to get over to his place to get some pictures of his hot collection..

However, in South Africa, there seems to have been a few people here and there that get bite by them little monsters and survive.. Theyu get their name Stilletto from the way they invenomate their prey..

I have no intrest in joining the bite club, although one day I might involentarily join it.. Fascinating creatures, but I don't want one as a "pet".. Although I have considered Copperheads, but that will have to wait until my youngest girl is out of the house..

Sorry, Tim, I tried to edit and re posted. Did you keep that specimen? I'm assuming no, since you mentioned not wanting one as a "pet." I have three timbers I "kept" this year, a black phase, a yellow, and a really beautiful baby that I'm 90% sure will turn dark. Took pictures of each but my reader/writer thing won't read my camera card. Called a buddy tonight to borrow his camera for a day, will post 'em.

My plans are to release them where I caught them next year, but they are the prettiest ones (to me) I've run across. I've not sexed them, but since I don't intend to sell or breed, guess it doesn't matter. Should have some photos up in a day or two. It still like you guy's rattlers better than my area's!

Nope, I have minors, I don;t intend on becoming one of those parents or people that gets accused of being stupid for keeping killer reptiles of a different sort !

Regards... Tim of T and J
