Well than dont read stuff in the general chit-chat section. Thats your problem, dude. Most of us are here for the snakes, yes. But it was in the general chit chat section. When I read stuff in there I expect it to have nothing to do with cornsnakes. (or reptiles in general for that matter)

"Dude" I think he was talking about the fact that the joke shouldn't have been posted in an open public snake forum. In both our opinions it should've been posted perhaps in a private social group or private forum where people would expect and enjoy such off-color joking. I know you wouldn't expect to read anything to do with cornsnakes in General-ChitChat. That's fine. I also don't expect to read gay-bashing jokes either. Different strokes and all that,huh? Psssst.......he's also my husband so can you not refer to him as "dude" in such a way? It's kindda rude. At least to me. Who knows? Maybe he likes to be referred to as "dude" and basically told to leave?

But seriously, Wade is a good friend, a decent modern person, very gay-friendly, and was relating this joke only to reflect the true absurdity of gay-bashing.

Goodness, when I think about the stuff I refrain from saying or telling or sharing....just because I don't want to be discomfabumisinterprenated.

But seriously, Wade is a good friend, a decent modern person, very gay-friendly, and was relating this joke only to reflect the true absurdity of gay-bashing.

Thanks, Matt and Mindy. For clarifying that. Boy do I know a few folks that sure could take some cultural sensitivity classes from y'all.
Personally, it has been my experience, having joined a german reptile site and a gigantic british reptile site, RFUK, there are some pretty tough-skinned people out there.

I have no problem with that. I love free speech and exercise it every day. But I also have a freedom of speech to speak my opposition to your view. and I simply exercised that.

how is this a "bashing" to anyone? I would call it a funny joke. Now days everything is offensive to someone. How is a good clean joke that doesn't direct any bad things towards anyone a bashing?

I am sorry to say this, but the way you have posted so far I dont think we will ever get along. I believe in free speech everywhere, and you don't. I am not politicly correct, and it seems you are. You have your reasons for believing what you do, and I have mine. *sigh* Did you read any of that? At all? He was speaking to you that way because he was reffered to as "dude". After a certain age you don't like being referred to as "dude". Just like I wouldn't like being reffered to as "chick" at my age. So in a way he was poking fun at being reffered to as dude. I'd have to poke fun too! And trust me! If you had ever spent time speaking to either of us for any length of time,you'd know we are in no way politically correct AT ALL! We are a married couple with 3 children who sport extensive tattoos,piercings and our 6 year old sports a green mohawk throughout the summer. Yep! We're SO not PC! However, we are sensitive to others' feelings on certain things and we both felt the need to voice our opinions. Only not rudely like you did. I noticed that when I stated I didn't find the joke funny or appropriate to be posted you didn't tell ME "then don't read it chick!" Why is that? All he did was agree with what I had already said. So why didn't I get told "just don't read it,then"? I also love the freedom of speech! Who doesn't?! But what if I posted a black ghetto joke on here beings that it's General ChitChat and you can post whatever you want. Would everybody just laugh and say "Oh that's hilarious!" Dude is, aside from being a pronoun, also a phrase that acts to express a certain amount of surprise or feeling of exasperation towards a person. Nothing extreme, but something that caught you off guard none the less.

At least, that's how I hear it being used around me in public and how it's used at my work and in my circle of friends.

WOW! I didn't think me for once in my life being politically correct would cause a big deal. I just didnt think this was the place for a comment like that. Then i get told not to read it then because I (used my freedom of speach) like he did WOW how double sided! I can always count on the good folks a CS.com. My computer crashed last week and I have been out of touch with the world. Hence, this entire fun debate went on without me. I feel so left out.

Reading over the comments made has been a riot. I’ve got Eric defending me (thank you very much) and the chick and dude caring the gay pride banner. Didn’t see that coming. I expected some flack on this one but I didn’t expect it to get mean spirited and heated.

Last month I had a heated debate about civil rights with a couple of white kids defending black America. I wonder if we are starting to be too concerned about being careful not to hurt anyone’s feeling. I think it is time for everyone to take a step back, relax a little, and laugh at yourself from time to time. It won’t hurt and it will do you a world of good. Take the chip off your shoulder and build a house with the lumber.

For those of you who got a chuckle out of my joke, I’m glad for you.
