4riscorn, I'd treat the wood by soaking overnight in 10% bleach solution and letting it air dry (preferably in the sun). Then I'd bake it for two hours at 300 F. Wstphal's right, there are directions about it if you want to look.

funny thing is is that when i was a kid my brother and i would catch garter snakes and hide them in an tank under the step until my dad found them and made us let them go. as an adult my brother got into snakes and i had kids. last year my brother got a ball python for my 15 yr old for his birthday. that started it. personally i don't care for the ball python but since then i have added 7 corn snakes and i am going to a expo in columbus oh next week end. btw i also have 2 bearded dragons and an iguanna and a dog

got more, want even more

We started with Willie in Jan and have added Kapatcho, Venus, Adonis, Layla and no name (either Apollo or Aveena depending on sex). We have more than what we thought we'd have so soon, but planning on more!!!

At least it's a safe addiction...right!

Hurray for this addiction!! It's kind of amazing how fast it takes hold.....:p

I have one more than I expected to have this soon, but I wouldn't trade any of them for anything. They're all beautiful corns, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

It all started with Lebowski. I got him from Petco about a month and a half ago. I've always loved the Okeetees. When I ordered my female Okeetee from Jeff Cochran, he threw in a male for free. AWESOME! So three's a crowd, but only if you don't enjoy the company!

I've been told that I have the Bug.. I believe it to be true.

This is a good thread so I figured since there are a bunch of newbies(me)and people that got more snakes since then.

I wish I would have commented the first time around!! Because my collection has exploded since this was posted. Still no and happy, though.

Nice poll - glad someone re-opened it. When I got back into keeping snakes again, I didn't expect to get more than one or two corns. Now I have 4, including my first hatchling in 30 years. 4 isn't a lot compared to most of the people here, but for me it's a pretty sizeable collection. Not to mention I'm taking care of my son's 5 ft (and growing) RTB while he's temporarily away.

I only have my two little corns, so yes there will be more. Sometimes I imagine having a rainbow of corns snakes, but four or five would be good to start a nice line breeding. Then trade hatchlings out for genetic diversity. I'm not interesting in selling, only the genetic aspect of breeding. My husband wants to breed ball pythons at some point, but I think it'd be wise to start out on corns to see what we're getting into.

My oldest son is asking for a snake for his room, but he isn't ready yet for the responsibility. In about a year a ten gallon will open up, and I do not see it sitting unused for very long.

I have more corns than I expected and I'm happy.

This is how I voted but I would still like more!!

We scaled back our collection a few months back when we decided breeding was not to be our forte. Any animal that was "just" for breeding... i.e. pretty but temperament-challenged critters, or those who were "doubles" of another snake designed to be paired were passed along to several people on this site who are into breeding.

Since that point, we've added about 10 more snakes (guesstimate) and are now very happy with our group. They are all snakes that we really love, and with the exception of a couple, all are 100% safe to handle without risk of biting (musking, on the other hand.... phew!)

I said "fewer than expected and happy". Why? Well, because I'm not done yet! We have a one-bedroom apartment, so five corns, two carpet pythons, and my Chinese green snake is a pretty decent collection. And, indeed, pretty large for someone in her first year of snake-ownership. I don't want to expand too rapidly. And, really, there's no reason to hurry about acquiring more. I have enough babies now to fully cover the Snake-Itch for now, and one day I'll have the space for an actual snake room. So I'm happy for now, because I know one day, if I want more, I can get them; and right now, I am totally set to take care of, and have fun with, the ones I have!

I have more than I expected, but am unhappy.
I too am unhappy because I think I need just a "few" more.
I got my first corn snake hatchling last year. Currently 6 corns and 2 other snakes. But I don't have any lavenders or gold dusts yet and my birthday is coming up.

At this point, I'm getting out of corns, so I have as many as I expected and I'm happy. When I had a larger number, I was also happy with that as I never got anything I didn't want. I always enjoy my snakes.
