At first glance I'd say no, but moss can really discolor eggs. I have some eggs that are ~65 days, and they are definitely bad. They are moldy and very dented and hard. For yours, I'd say probably okay, definitely wait and see.

My brain did the same thing. I'll vote good. They are really stained, and either way, I would find a better moss source next year! I'm sure the excess tannin doesn't hurt a thing, but that is a lot more discoloration than you need to look past to examine the eggs.

I agree the moss was not very good I had the eggs covered but I noticed flies so I got rid of it....
this is the first time in 20 years I have attempted it I be happy if one egg hatched...
there is no mold the eggs are not rock hard but springy is the best way to explain it I did pick the big one up to candle after the 60 day mark it with no luck I was very careful not to turn it but i did feel movement or that might of been me wanting to feel movement.... LOL fingers crossed
I am using the EXO Terra incubator witch has kept the temp was 82 for the whole time with good humidity...

For next year, use orchid moss from the garden center, and use an egg container without holes, to keep flies out. You just open the container once or twice a week and gently fan the eggs for a minute. I use a base of HatchRite with about an inch of orchid moss, which has been wet and wrung out as much as possible. If you think it's too dry, it's probably just right.

I am incubating in the 80-82 range, with dips to 78 at night and spikes to 83-84 in the afternoon. My first clutch has pipped at 65 Days. You should see pips in the next two weeks, I'd think.

I agree with the above posts.

Never give up on an egg.... I've seen some pretty awful looking eggs produce perfect lil babies.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks everyone they were laid on may 3rd and just started to hatch today........ : )
so that means it took 86 days does this seem long?? From what I understand around 60 days is the norm so far one baby banded miami

YES!! Called it!! The incubation time varies with the temp. It sounds like you were incubating at a cooler temp. Can't wait to see pics!!

I use a bit of peat moss in my substrate and that same green sphagnum over the top and they all have that tannin coloration... sometimes I feel like switching it up, so I may try the orchid moss, if only for aesthetics!
