Plissken...

Just curious, as I'm considering different housing options. How do you heat those vivs? I can't imagine it's by UTH, since there's another viv in the "under" part. Or are there UTH's in there attached to ceramic tile lying at the bottom of the viv?

Hi,

Built my viv myself after she outgrew her original plastic starter viv. It has a 'secret' sleeping section where the heat mat is placed, logs to hide under and branches to climb.

She seems very happy in there.

oh wow, that's a little hidden tub she can chill out in? That's so cool! I've never seen anything like that before.

They're heated with UTHs - I have them inside the vivs. Like so:

They're all on thermostats, under tiles and under a thick layer of substrate. I've never had any problems.

Grahama - that viv is amazing!

Hi V Various,

Yeah a bolt hole for her. Was struggling to find a suitable sized log that she could fit under and be completely out of the way so thought of this solution. She seems to like it and there's plenty of room for her down there. Best heat transfer from the mat through the plastic boc too. The chippings are always warm during the day and cooler at night and if too warm she comes upstaire to cool off.

Thats the beauty of building your own I suppose. Cost about £50 to build complete and the closest over here size for size is tripple that without the hide away !!
