Early winter = early ovulation?

Wyldrose

Addicted to corns!
Was not expecting this so early. Heart goes off food when she is ovulating, 2 weeks no eating(she's usually a garbage can lol) so I decided to check her and sure enough she's ovulating! The early winter here must have helped trigger early ovulation.
I planned to test her for anery this year and paired her with my snow corn Castor. If she is not het anery I should have 100% amels if she is het anery then 50% amels and 50% snows.

She's got about 500 grams on him, but he got the job done!

I'll be pairing them up a few more times and hope for some fertile eggs from Heart this year, last year she had a clutch of slugs.

Wow Congrats! I have been debating on tossing a boy in with one of my girls lately just to check. I think it is to early but all the girls I plan to use this year shed this last week. So what the heck? lol..

I tried a couple other pairs but the girls where not in the mood. Heart laid eggs march 21 last year, looks like she's a good month to two early this year. If she didn't go off food I wouldn't have even though about checking her and pairing her up :)

all of my girls shed this last week also..... i tossed a male in with all three of them and they weren't in the mood! lol but i guess ill wait a little while and try again. this weird winter in ohio has thrown my snakes for a loop.. lol 40-50 degrees to blizzard in two days haha

Yeah my girls weren't interested either. I even put them in with a well seasoned boy and nothing. He was every interested in checking them out but once he did that he lost interest. Doesn't hurt my feelings though. I am not ready for eggs and babies just yet. I will wait till spring sheds and try again.

Funny.....

My pair of lava het caramels both shed over the holidays.... So like a few others, thought what the heck......

No locks.... But lots of interest......a lot of the herky/jerky stuff. She wasn't exactly running away either. Planned on trying again this weekend.

On a side note..... The female lavender pewter shed last night.... Her male counterpart is deep in blue at the moment.....

So, it could be an early year after all! ; )

I had the same as Christen. Interest from the male (Dusty), but then he left her alone and I took that as a "she's not ready yet." Parkay was very curious about Dusty though!

Bah, I'm starting to think my big female is a dude... Rufus will not be pleased. He still does the jumpy thing when around her though. She rattles and runs away. I wasn't very good at popping when I hatched her out almost 3 years ago so I'm just not sure.

If she's running away there is a good chance she isn't in the "mood". Wait until her next shed and see if things get better ;)
My anery motley and amel motley both shed and both ran from the boys when I paired them up. I guess my big amel is a early bloomer! I have had them lock up 4x now, and she looks very full. Better get the incubator out and all set up :) I have been hording newborn pinkys since they started locking up.

I put my pairs together for months and let them do it when they feel for it. In may the females use to get thick with eggs even if I did not se the the copulation.
Is it better to put the pairs together for multiple short times?

It is really a matter of preference. However, many girls can get harrassed if they aren't ready. Plus there have been a few times that a few have lost the male due to the female. I personally don't like to risk it with my babies. My snakes are pets before breeders so I would be devastated if one was harrassed or even killed for my hobby for something I can prevent.

Thanks for the answer. I have not seen any hostility, harrassment with my snakes, so I will keep on keeping them together.

But it it good to know that you should keep an extra eye on them.

I figured I'd check some of other girls and sure enough Mars my amel mot is ovulating as well!
Pair #2 Mars amel motley to Casanova amel motley

I'm hoping Mars rich red colors pass onto her babies!

It's interesting to see two amel motleys together - they're still different from each other! Can't wait to see your babies.

I have another amel mot thats almost pure red, I thought for sure she was a fire but produced all normals bred to a bloodred. She doubled clutched last year and was slow to gain weight so that one gets this year off. Now if my bloodred girls will ovulate... lol!

Mars was sold to me as a male but probed female when I got home. I lucked out and got Casanova this summer, he's a proven male too.

You let them slid over your fingegrs and you can feel little bumps in the belly, like a string of pearls and they also look "plump" half way down. She shed a week ago and I put her in with Casanova and she wanted nothing to do with him, but I figured I'd try it tonight and she was ready to go.
