Earwig?

Under Tank Heather
So I was cleaning the water dish in Marius' enclosure when an earwig popped out of the bedding. I screamed and about had a heart attack. But anyway, are earwigs dangerous to snakes? I have no idea where this bug came from. I checked through all his bedding and couldn't find another one but I went ahead and changed the bedding anyway. These guys are plentiful around our house, but rarely do we find them inside our house (where they can be seen, at least *shudder*)

From Wikipedia--Earwig:
"This species feeds on other arthropods, plants, ripe fruit, and garbage."

Personally I wouldn't worry about it unless you were to end up with some bizarre infestation overrunning the cage.

Cornsnakes in the wild, well, they live outside, you know, where there are sometimes insects. ;) :poke:

That's what I assume. They probably pose more danger to my sanity. Now I'm afraid to stick my hand in a snake cage...not because of the snake...but because of the earwig that might be waiting for me

Yeah, they're creepy, but harmless. Unless they get near your ear. In the night...

i've had nightmares about that very thing. a couple years ago a dude i work with had a rush trip to the emergency room with a horrable pain in his ear...it wasnt an earwig, but it was a great big black beetle. bleh! :puke01:

Ahhhh!!! Here I am, lurking through the threads, and I see this. Don't tell me those kind of things! Now I'll have to sleep with earplugs tonight. :crying:

But, um, on topic, no, I wouldn't worry about the earwig. Well, I'd worry about it, but not because of the snake. The snake will be fine. You might never be the same though.
