EGG OPINIONS

Just curious, after 60 days of incubation how long do some of you wait before cutting in? And I'm talking about a consistent 83-84 degrees, or do you choose not to cut in at all?

What are people's thoughts?

Thanks

I wish my eggs were emo, so they would cut themselves ;)

JK! We don't cut...

I never cut eggs. My take on it is that if they're not strong enough to make it out under their own steam, then nature doesn't intend them to survive.

Also even in a thermostatically controlled incubation setup I've had eggs go past the 70 day mark, 7 days+ after the first in the clutch hatched, (last ones were ones at the top of a clump, farthest from the heat source) and still produce healthy hatchlings in the end. You can't second-guess when they're cooked and if you cut open an egg prematurely you could end up killing rather than saving the occupant.

Never. I've NEVER had anything viable come out of a slit egg. I wouldn't even get nervous until some time after 75 days.

I thank all for your opinions, dont worry im not new to the game, I've cut eggs for years with very good success. I was just curious what people think because I never have eggs go past 61 days but this will be a new first. :)

Same here Justin,
I always cut IF they reach 70 days and never had problems with eggs that I cut. I cut once I see the first nose per clutch. I've had instances where you could see scratches from the inside of the egg which held a drowned neonate due to the egg tooth breaking off before making it through to get it's first breath of air.

My ex cut one of the eggs from last year after all the other babies hatched and the baby in that egg died. I'd never cut eggs. I think I read in Kathy's book that someone had a clutch that went like 100 days and only one baby hatched?

Some eggs i cut have a lil guy trapped in them, i cut and gently rub the side till i see a head pop out then leave it alone.

I had to cut two last year (around day 80). The egg was extremely thick and leathery. Not sure if they would have been able to hatch on their own and I didn't want to take the chance.

last year i had babies hatching on day 91 to 94 and all ate and godzilla hatchlings so no worries they will hatch. plus all four that hatched ate right after shed and have been healthy brats

Yeah I'm seeing some noses right now pushed against the egg but nobodies coming out, no teeth slices! I'm going to be paying close attention within the next few days. Back in the day I used to cut alot of my eggs between day 55-60. I never wanted to risk loosing babies to drowning, and I never did!
