Our local Herp Club did a small field outing over the Easter weekend, this is what we came up with.

Brown Water Snake

Centipede Eater

Purple Glossed Snake

Leopard Tortoise

Sadly, they are very seldomly encountered in the wild anymore.
They are called leopard because juveniles have a black spotted pattern.
This one was obviously not a youngster anymore.

Wow, that's awesome. I actually have a leopard tortoise as a pet. They're gorgeous. It's so neat that you found a wild one. Lucky you!

Here in South Africa we cannot keep any species of Tortoise without having a permit which is nearly impossible to get.

That Purple Glossed Snake is interesting, mostly because I can't find a lot of info about them. I did find a few pics that show they have very long fangs.

@ RobbiesCorn Field - Anytime you like, interestingly we are going on a field trip on Wednesday 22 April 09 to an area which is reported to be rife with big Black Mambas and Mocambique Spitting Cobras.

@ allan - They are venomous, however, their venom is considered to be of no consequence to Human Beings.
We took DNA samples from this specimen as well as Venom samples to be analysed.
Not much is known about these snakes due to the fact that they are rarily found alive.
This particular specimen belongs to the Genus "Ambliyodipsas concolor".
