First Couple of Weeks...

Hi Everyone,

So I was told when I bought my snake to not handle him for the first week or so, then feed him, leave him alone for another 2 days, then start handling him again...

But since I've never owned a snake before and ended up with something that looks like this:

, I couldn't help myself, and I started handling him 2 days after i got him!
He seems perfectly fine with being handled, he's very calm, and doesn't show me any signs of being irritated... a couple of days ago, I fed him for the first time and he ate just fine... I left him alone after I fed him for about 1 day then couldn't help but play with him some more... hard-headed, i know:headbang:

What I'm wondering now is... Should I really quit handling him for another few days? Is it too late and I hurt him for life already? Should I just keep handling him for 10-15 minutes every day as long as he's not showing any signs of stress?

What will likely happen if I keep handling him?

If someone can explain to me what I'm supposed to do for the first 2 weeks of getting a corn snake, I'd really appreciate it... thanks a lot...
Toof.

well the rule of thumb when your first get them is one week alone. but since you have already had him awhile and hes eating, hes fine. but i would definately give him 2 days after feeding. they need that long to digest.
and congrats on your new snake, hes a cutie

You're going to have to "help yourself" to not handle the snake for a strict 48 hours after feeding. You risk a regurge, and not a small risk, either. Snakes can and do die after regurgitating, especially babies.

Yeah, definitely 2 days to digest...
Handling it any sooner may cause a regurgitation.

I agree completely.

It would be bad to put such a cute lil snake at risk.

Ok... So from now on, 48 hours after each feed...

But what about other than that? Now, should I quit handling him for another few days? Or since he ate already after I've been handling him, that means he's ok with being handled?

The original week suggested is just to let them get settled and to relieve the stress of the move. So, its a little late for that. Short handling sessions (10-15 mins) would probably be fine until he gets used to it. If he stops eating cut back on the handling and see if that helps at all.
