First Regurge

Hello all. To make a long story short my amel regurged for the first time. I waited 76hrs to hold her as i always do. Then she regurged. Although this is the first time i dont think there is any reason for panic here she just went to the vet 3 wks ago for a check up good bill of health. The rat was 3/4 digested only skin a tail left. The food weighed 50 grams. Im wondering after i wait a week to refeed should i start with a small hopper? thanks for any input.

How big is your snake that she eats 50g rats???

Anyway, I'd wait 8-10 days, get Nutribac from Kathy Love, put that on the meal you offer her, and I guess I'd start with a hopper or big fuzzy. I'd slit it on the back and sides.

Chad, I'd be careful, in the future, with the size of mice you give her. I'd stick to regular adults, not jumbos.

Also check your temps just to be sure..... It sounds like she regurged it before it spoiled in her stomach. I would wait at least 10 days before feeding her again. Having Nutribac on hand might be a good thing. If the temps are okay then I would use the Nutribac. There might be other issues and not getting a full meal might compound them. Search for what might of stressed the snake out. It might be as simple as ordering a rat from a different breeder.

Good luck,

Thanks for all the info. The tank temps seem fine 70.8 cool side warm side 84.4.-Adult (24-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+)
-Jumbo Adults (40-50g) every 7-x days (Snake = 400g+). I will move down to the 20-25 grams mouse. Although i know she has taken the 28-31 gram mouse in the past fine. i will wait 10 days and try again with the stuff from kathy and a 8-12 gram hopper

Sounds like you have found the issue. I dont go by weights... I use the general rule of 1.5 the size of the largest part of the snake....

Looks like you're going off the Munson Plan, which seems to be the widely accepted feeding method. A 10 day wait and the 20g + Nutribac sounds good, although I wouldn't worry about compensating with the extra hopper. GL

When mine regurged, I followed Kathy Love's plan including sending her a desperate email to buy NutriBac asap - and it worked. The emphasis on 'less is more' in the first post-feed regurge was key for us. Long no-feed period followed by very small meals, injected with Nb and slit open. I chose to use only the mouse head to start with. I'm sorry about the regurge, I know how worrying that is.

The only problem with slit open is my amel will only eat live so do i inject it alive or just put it in the water?

well she seems ok she is on the prowl in here house tonight will try again when i get the bac juice
