for those who use infared temp guns

Right away. Mine gives a high and low temp as well as recording these temps for reference. It's a pro exotic pe-2 nothing fancy and works quite well:)
 
Likewise, but I'll take a few readings just to make sure I haven't hit a "hot spot"....

Fluke..... They are instant.
+- 1% and work just fine.
I always move around the point I am looking at to see what temp gradient I am getting...
 
Like everyone has said, they are pretty instant and accurate but moving them around can give you some info. I like the RBI 412L Infrared Thermometer for fifty bucks.
 
I don't know what mine is, I got it from WOOT. Couldn't live without it now!! Instant readings.
