Ok so someone locally is selling some baby snakes. Here is their ad:

I've been trying to figure out the hets in the parents to come up with this clutch...and I keep getting this:

Male - Amel Bloodred (fire ) het for hypo and anery
x
Female ghost, het for amel

offspring should be roughly: (phenotypes only)
12.5% Snow, Hypo (masked)
12.5% Ghost
12.5% Snow
12.5% Anery
12.5%Amel, Hypo ( masked)
12.5% Hypo
12.5% Amel
12.5% Normal

Is this right? They didn't mention any ghosts...maybe they are confusing them with aneries? Is there some other combo that could give the clutch they are advertising? I;d like to know what genes they might be carrying...
 
The clutch is also lacking normals, which makes me wonder if they are mistaking normals for hypos. I wouldn't be surprised for both parents to be het snow, producing normals, amels, anerys and snows all het for hypo bloodred. If possible, ask for photos of the parents and the offspring. You should be able to get a fairly good idea what morph they are.
 
Oh sorry I forgot to include....the pic they show DOES include normals....now of course that may just be a generic pic...I dunno.

So you're saying they are:
Male - Amel Bloodred (fire ) het for anery
x
Female ghost, het for amel

That would make the offspring :
25% Snow - het hypo blood
25% Anery - het amel hypo and blood
25% Amel het ghost and blood
25% Normal het snow, hypo and blood

This also roughly matches the picture.....Wow those are some good hets!

If they are mistaking the normals for hypos, then take a close look at their amel blood to be sure that is what he really is. They can look a lot like pretty amels or sunglows. There should be NO hint of yellow checks on the belly - sometimes they are faint, so it is easy to miss them. If there are, it may be carrying bloodred genes, but won't be a definite blood itself. If that was true, then the babies won't be DEFINITE blood "hets".
 
Good point Kathy...thanks! I'll ask for either pics of the parents or ask him to bring them along.
 
The yellow checks could be difficult to see in a photo. If they are willing to bring the fire, you could check the belly yourself. If it is just a photo, it will have to be a really good photo, in good light, of just the belly, to be sure.
 
ok....I understand. I have an amel and I know what you mean about the checks being really light. Losing the definite bloodred het would certainly put a damper on my enthusiasm to get ahold of these babies.....
 
This certainly looks like a fire to me....opinions?

You may also want to see the ghost as I think I've seen a thread or two (;)) about dark ghosts vs light anerys.
