Wow...what a thread. Can't we all just agree to disagree? In a community as big as this we're going to have disagreements - but we can disagree with civility (it is actually possible). And since the chat thread was brought up I'm going to borrow a line from it...

Now since we've all pissed in each others Wheaties can we please go out and get some pizza and beer or something?

I added the boldface myself...

Katie, I think there has been an incredible amount of restraint and respect throughout this topic. This topic has migrated from one"hot-button topic" to another, with hilarity in between, and I am of the opinion that throughout all the pages, there has been a mutual respect from each person to the next. Sure, there have been scattered misunderstandings, but they were all quickly resolved with apologies and/or "I understand your point, I just don't agree.", which is as it should be.

In fact, when you consider the different personalities involved, the topics involved and the potential for disastrous argument throughout this incredibly long debate, I think itis quite commendable on the part of ALL participants for the amount of civility and respect that has remained visible and palatable throughout.

These topics could have easily offended, embarrassed, and angered quite a number of people quite easily, yet it remained reasonably civil for such a long and diverse debate. Reputation points to everyone involved, if I could!

Dean, I suspect the ratio of people who've misunderstood your post in this thread to people who haven't is pretty darned small. It's just that the self-selected sample of people actively participating in this thread is not reflective of the aforementioned ratio--we've got some sampling error going on here.

I forgot you, sorry!

I can not support a forum that exists because someone didn't like Rich's decisions on how he wants to run his forum.).
Hmmm.... were you aware that Rich started this forum because he didn't like someone else's decisions on how they wanted to run their forum? And we all followed because we didn't like how that forum was being run either? Guess what? That forum has also been around longer and *may* have more members. (I didn't look it up) I still believe that place doesn't hold a candle to this site.

I don't think Rich's decisions were ludicrous and unreasonable and think the reason for the other forum coming into existence is juvenile (I changed the word for you :) ).
I think there were plenty of other legitimate reasons behind the new forum. And I think what personal aspects that ARE there run deeper than that. Unfortunately, as I've been saying, a select group of us have been labeled "juvenile" and thus everything we do from here on out must be motivated by something juvenile. It's obvious there are people here that promote the idea that we no longer do anything for "mature" reasons. (But don't worry those accusations don't hurt our reputations apparently.)

With all due respect, I think comparing browsing a new site to "jumping through hoops" a little juvenile. As well as the use of the word "can't" instead of "won't" when discussing keeping up with the American Cornsnake Registry or some of our breeding plans.

Some have reasons for leaving, some have reasons for staying, some have reasons to visit both sites. I agree this conversation has needlessly gotten out of control. If people stopped throwing out the accusatory guesses on why who did what, the site could put things behind it and move forward.

Therealityis, if people didn't "move on" and start their own sites, the WWW would be a very small place to hang out.

People started a site about cornsnakes. So What? Who cares why they started, how it happened or what motivated them. The fact of the matter is, it is merely one more resource available to anyone willingto visit and read.

There is nothing juvenile or immature about leaving a site and starting your own because you don't agree with the way things are done. In fact, it is the basis for the internet. You can't find a site that you like...start your own. MAKE a site that you like. It is the very reason behind the tremendous and rapid growth ofthe World Wide Web. It is the beauty of it's nature. There is a place for every person to openly and publicly display their talents, desires, and interests, within certain reasonable and legal limits. They can also bitch, moan and gripe if they want to.

What is truly "immature" and "juvenile" is the rampant judgmentalism. What is truly ridiculous is how people are being judged "juvenile" because of a personal choice. It doesn't matter what the argument was, or what the rationale is. A personal choice was made to start a new website, and to run it the way THEY wanted it run, not someone else. So Be It. It is certainly less juvenile than calling people names because of it...
