Ghost vs Phantom

Is there any way to tell the difference visually?

Sometimes they are easier to pick out than others. I haven't seen any Phantoms that develop some of the browns than some Ghosts can. On the other hand some Ghosts can be pretty silvery and look fairly close to Phantoms. Usually one can tell by the eyes though. Charcoals and Phantoms have pretty much all black eyes and it's very difficult to tell the iris from the pupil. Ghosts and Aneries on the other hand, usually have lighter iris's.
Here is a pic of a Ghost, a Phantom, and an Anery Phantom. The Ghost is the brownish one, the Anery Phantom is the super light one, and the other is the regular Phantom.

I'm not Carol, but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night . . . :crazy02: That Anery Phantom IS incredible, and Carol was the lucky recipient of my necessary yearly downsizing from a couple years back . . . I feel like such an idiot with some of the animals that I have "let go" over the past couple years, but I honestly can only keep a certain number of adult snakes, and have to downsize each spring to make room for project hatchlings.

Carol, she just keeps getting purdier and purdier!!

PS. She was originally purchased by me, from Rich . . . as a Phantom . . . and my last breeding with her (before sending her to Carol) proved her out homo Anery!

OH, I almost forgot!! Interestingly enough, here are two Ghost het Blizzard siblings from that "proving out" breeding that will hopefully give me some Ghosts, Anery Phantoms, Coral Snows, and Blizzard Ghosts!

Thank you everyone I can see a difference. And Drizz, you are not hijacking the thread at all! The pictures were most helpful. I really shouldn't be worrying about it now, because the snakes can't be bred for at least a year, but I have a trio that is het diffused, hypo, and lav and possibly het amel, anery and charcoal. I just know when I have hatchlings with them I will be posting hundreds of pics and asking what they are and looking like a total dummy!

And one more thing...that anery phantom is GORGEOUS! Congratulations on owning such a beautiful girl

That sure explains why there is such a following for our Phantom cultivars. I shall 'prove' him out this year & rename as appropriate.

Well now there's an interesting point! Really! Rich sold that snake as a Charcoal Ghost. And guess what, that's exactly what it is. It's a combo of hypo, charcoal, and anery. That should be the new way to describe the differences, and once a snake is proven only Charcoal and Hypo, to be called a Phantom. As it is, the original Charcoal was het Anery. So many of the Charcoal lines carry Anery or can also be homo Anery as Drizzt80 discovered with his female.

And to add, it's hard to get exactly the same look sometimes in offspring. So you could get babies from this snake and get nicer, same, and not as nice babies thanks to the variablility that can be found. Good luck! Best bet, order a big pile of Phantoms from Rich and grow em up for a year, and then select what you like, and sell the rest. Or just get to a big show he does and hope you select a nice pair of Phantoms

Anyhow, I shall add, gorgeous snakes! Very nice line of Ghosts Brent! And yeah, next time you have the urge to let screamers go, give me a ring. LOL!
