Got a new girl

Well it seems I'm acquiring a few new pets this week, I bought this girl from a local guy. She is a dayglow morph from what I've been told and an '07.

I let her go outside today for a photoshoot, she's settle in quite nicely and ate like a pig the day after I brought her home. On her head you can see a beauty mark that I hope goes away after her next shed. Also if any of the pros feel that she is something other than a Dayglow please let me know. Thanks for looking...

Gorgeous amel! I love her colours. :)

But a Dayglow? Yet another new morph name or has someone just come up with a funky name to sell his/her amel more easily - or has someone mistaken her for a sunglow which she apparently isn't?

I'm not to serious on getting into breeding just yet but if anyone could confirm this that would be great! While it won't really matter if I know for sure it would be nice to know for sure especially if I go to resell her later own.

No such thing as a dayglow, but that is a pretty bright amel. A sunglow would have absolutely no white whatsoever, and like I said dayglows aren't a recognized morph:)

LOL whoops thats what I meant to say Sunglow not Dayglow, my bad :sidestep: Ok so that means she's just an Amel correct?

Yes, she's "just" an amel because of all the white. She is, however, an unusually vibrant amel and you should be proud to own her.

Nothing about her looks sunkissed at all. *edited because I mixed up ages between your snake and someone else's*

As an example of how a snake can be close to a sunglow but still "just" an amel, this is Dier who looks like your kid but with far less white. Don't mind her nose, she rubbed a scale off and is being treated for the damage. Also mind that that is a picture of her in the shade.

When in doubt always go with the lesser of the possible morphs until proven through breeding.

I agree, there's no reason for you to suspect Sunkissed.

I think Sunglow used to be a little more "lax", but there was debate as to how much white was too much white, and now with all the Sunglow Mots and Sunglow Stripes, I think the definition of the morph is much more strict. Either way, Sunglow is a line bred form of Amel, so Amel is the correct name for ANY Sunglow anyway.

So, to make things simple, as said before more than a few times, you have an Amelanistic corn snake. ;)

Not that it matters, but I agree with the others, I would just call it an amel, however, it is a very nicely colored amel. Were I you, I would breed it to a bloodred het amel or a fire. I am betting you will be please with the f1's, but the F2's you will like even more. Just my thoughts.

Not true, there is a "Dayglow" line that was bred by Don at South Mountain. We have some of them and there are other breeders who have them. Heck, Don still has some. They are not commonly seen anymore, but it was a name Don gave to a line of amels he bred that were super red. That is what made them stand out from other lines of amels, the fact that these were red instead of oranges. I'll try and get a pic of a Dayglow and post it later.

Thanks all, I'm relived to know her true morph, the guy I got her from I'm sure payed to much years ago at the Tampa show for her. We both are just small hobbyist, luckily he was moving and had to sell her quick.

Dayglows are Amelanistics that have been selectively bred for their dark orange/red coloration.

Its a trade name. Its not a morph. But she is sooooo pretty great find.

So it is possible to be a dayglow..... There are so many trade names out there, it can be hard to know...
