Green Tree Python hatchlings making a debut!

TrpnBils

22 is not enough snakes
Of the 12 good eggs, 8 have hatched and exited so far. Three more are pipped, and the last one appears to be dead in the egg I'm afraid...full pigmentation and everything, but no obvious movement and it just has that "feel" to it.

But anyway, we got three different looks out of this clutch. About half the reds are very, very dark to the point where they almost look black, and the other half are really light red. The yellows are pretty standard, although a few have an unbroken dorsal stripe which I'm a big fan of :)

Our mite phase juvies were the real dark red as hatchlings so I'm hoping that these will turn into that eventually...although I'm definitely hoping to have them all sold off by then so I guess I'll never find out...lol

I'll get more shots after their first shed once we start the process of feeding, but I knew I couldn't post anything about hatchlings without photos, so here are a few from the remaining pipped snakes.

THOSE REDS ARE THE MOST AMAZING THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! OMG! I have always liked Tree pythons... But now I am in LOVE!!! Do they grow out of that as they reach adult hood? Do you have any pictures of red adults? What type of price do they run at?

If I had a red adult I wouldn't have to work two jobs anymore :)

They go through what's known as an ontogenic color change once they reach a year or two old (although some of our last bunch started at ~3 months) where they change over to green. Reds and yellows look the same as adults.

Prices for yellows and reds can vary, but you can figure $250-$300 for something like this.

BTW that's one of the light red ones... we got a few real dark ones too. Check it out!

Those are so beautifull! And beautifull pics of them too!
I don't know much of this species, although I've always found them fascinating. I knew there were red and yellow hatchlings, but I didn't know they could come from the same clutch. Is there a reason some are red and others are yellow?

Depending on the locality, some only have yellow hatchlings but other localities are mixed. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Occasionally you'll get a "blaze" hatchling out of it, like this one we hatched out three years ago. Reportedly there are green hatchlings sometimes too but I've never seen even a picture of one.

They don't stay red, do they? Or else I'd be snagging at least one. @_@

Nope, but feel free to snag away :) We have 16 more eggs incubating right now for next month!

The reds are the most gorgeous things I have ever seen. Its a shame they don't stay that way.

Still gorgeous babies. :p

Jeff, I find a lot of conflicting information on these, as well as a bunch of crap on "ATBs vs GTPs". Shoot me some info?

I love that picture of the two emerging hatch-lings facing each other. They look so amazing, really. It's the craziest thing to think that an animal in the wild can lay eggs that hatch into those.

OMG!!! What gorgeous photos!!! I love the close-ups. I can't believe they just hang out and let you arrange the eggs and take pictures like that, without retreating back inside. I wish they stayed that color...

I'd be glad to! What specific kind of info are you looking for? (At this point I should throw out the following disclaimer: "I am not a professional breeder, and am self-educated in the ways of keeping snakes. Everybody does things differently so I do what works for myself and my snakes, so don't take my information as the end-all to chondro keeping just because I have a few (or twenty)" :)

I know! I think the most amazing part of the whole thing is how delicate they are to incubate and that they still hatch in the wild at all! 100% humidity is necessary for incubation, but if a single drop of water gets on them they rot! As far as I know there's never been a photo of a wild chondro on a clutch of eggs...I'd love to see what it's really like though!

Now THOSE are some beautiful pippie shots. Wonderful. You should make a calendar.

I submitted this photo to iHerp's calendar contest a couple of months ago and it got shot down because it wasn't good enough....thus ending my calendar career.

Yeah I figured this was a one-time shot here because I didn't want to disturb them too much, but they were pretty good about it!

Holy crap!! Those look amazing. I LOVE the uber dark red one.

I know they change color, but do the red and yellow ones end up looking pretty much the same as adults? And is it known why some hatch yellow vs. red? (please excuse my GTP ignorance).

Yeah I dunno - I bumped up the saturation a little to give it that shadowed effect around the edges which made it grainy at full size I guess. It's still true color though and one of my favorite snakes we have....strong feeder from the start and has never struck at me so there's a bonus :)
