Halloween Photo shoot

Jessicat

All Pied Everything
I wanted to get some nice profile shots for my snakes on iherp, so I set up a little bowl with some leaves in it and attempted to do a photo shoot. I was all prepaired with a solid colored deli cup to put over the snakes so that they'd coil up and calm down and I'd get some beautiful shots.

Well.. after this experience I want to say hats off to those who somehow manage to get their snakes to sit in beautiful positions in natural looking settings.
I'm not sure what the secret is, but I have not discovered it yet!

Hardly any of my snakes sat pretty for me, and I was even bitten! :smash:
It was a little hatchling bite.. I didn't even realize I was being bit until I looked down.. lol. but still, I haven't managed to piss my snakes off so bad in quite some time!

I don't know if these shots were really "worth it" cause I probably ended up stressing my snakes out, but here they are..

The only shots I took of him last time he was fresh shed was in his tub.. and I wasn't satisfied with them. I like these a little better!

I'm really happy with how her colors showed through in this shoot. The last photo shoot we did didn't bring them out like I'd hoped.. I guess surroundings make a huge difference!

Next up was Rorschach, but he was NOT having it.. and considering that he's new I didn't want to stress him. This was the only shot I got, but I like it!

Alright, now for the purple/grey snakes!

I really wanted to get a new photo of Vlad. He's put on some weight since he's been here, but he's still so small. He's pretty flighty, and until he gets a bit larger I don't like to take him out for anything besides food because he is FAST!

I haven't taken a photo of Lilac in awhile, and even though she looks like she's close to shedding, I wanted to snap a few photos today. I'm glad I did, because the yellow leaves really brought out her purple hues. John, she's looking GREAT!!!

And now to finish off the group with two of my newer additions. Here are the two normals with some nice hets that are now taken it easy in their tubs after I annoyed them earlier today!

Those are all the '10 kids I took pictures of today! No costumes though, sorry. Hope you enjoyed.

I think these are incredible! You've captured a really beautiful metallic cast on your snakes, especially the gold on Eleanor Rigby and the silver on Lilac.

It's too bad snakes don't understand the value of art. I always feel bad trying to pose them for pictures because I don't want to stress them out, but they're such beautiful subjects!

I just tell all my snakes that if they dont behave then ill be buying a king cobra. They seem to understand what i mean.

Lovely pics of my future baby mommas and daddies.

I love the Pewter and Bloodreds the most... so very beautiful against the yellow/red/brown colors of the leaves. Very nice, pictures Jessi! :dancer:

Beautiful photos! I love the autumn leaves. I think all of these came out wonderfully! I wish I had time to take pictures of my guys again. :/

Thanks guys!!! I loved looking at these and brushing them up a little in Photoshop, but the actual taking of them was a little stressful!

I didn't do my whole collection because these guys were enough for me!

Thanks for the compliments though! I don't know if it was the texture of the leaves or what, but it really did seem to bring out an extra beauty in my snakes that I don't really see as frequently in the tree shots. I think a big part of it was the lighting. It was overcast but still kind of sunny. There was enough light to get decent exposures, but not so much that they were all blown out.

I'm collecting leaves from other places (we don't have any red leaves in our yard!), so hopefully the other guys will get their turn in the leaves!

thanks for sharing jessica :) i think i will do a small workshop for "how to coil up your snakes, make them look pretty and get a picture of it" in the near future :D

I would highly appreciate that! Your fall photo set inspired these, and they are no where near as nice and put together.

I am happy with the results, but I love the consistency of your pictures.

Do you use an indoor set? Do you dangle a mouse or something to get their attention? ... ok never mind. I shall let the mysteries be revealed in time!
