Well early tomorrow we are going to OIB, NC for vacation. We are def. gonna spend a lot of time herping. I hope to have some wonderful pics when we get back. We'll be gone almost 2 weeks. Anyone know of any good places in Ocean Isle?

Sorry we couldn't got with you all. We are bumping up to a plan 5 which means Fire Weather here is getting really bad. I am most likely going to a fire somewhere soon.

Good luck to you!!! Get one of those Gazetteer's for North Carolina and you will see all the back roads and parks in the area. You better bring us back something good. Talk to you soon!

I'd love to meet up with some fellow herpers! lol Come on up!! Its very nice there. Its not too crowded and the fishing is awesome. Hopefully the herping will be too. Plus we take our doggies with us every time we go. They love it.
 
Well we just got back from OIB. We done absolutely no good road hunting at night. My guess is that its still a lil too cold to warm the roads up for them at night time. Anyways heres a run down of what we did find and I'll try to put some pics up sometime soon.

2 cottonmouths Road kill
1 copperhead Road kill
1 black rat Road kill
4 corns -- sadly all Road kill-- if we'd been 30 seconds earlier we coulda saved a poss. gravid female. She was 4-5 feet long and huge, and oh so pretty. But a ignorant dummy ran over her right in front of us. We done a fast turn around and he/she was in reverse and was gonna run over her again. They seen us coming and sped off. When we got to her I thought she hadn't been run over, but when we picked her up, 1/4 of her body was caved in. I'm guessing it crushed her lungs. So we ended her suffering.
1 melanistic eastern garter that someone had neatly cut into 3 pieces :(

OUR FIRST WILD CAUGHT CORN!!!!!!!!!

It was def. a fun vacation. We didn't even drag out the old fishing poles, just herped the whole time. Its sad that there is a major highway running right thru the Green Swamp, which is where majority of those that we found dead were killed.

Anyways pics soon! I got some awesome pics of the swamps also so I'll probably post in genearl chit chat!
 
I used to catch and release snakes on the playground in LA before the other kids came out and killed them for fun. I punched one boy for killing a snake I just couldn't get to in time. I hate how brutally towards certain animals is tolerated and even nurtured in kids.

Glad you got at least one wild corn. My parents have a backyard corn to protect my dad's tomatoes.
 
Welcome home! Glad you made it back safe and sound...and what a jerk running over that poor Corn and then going back again...poor thing. I saw this duck crossing the road in our local park by the lake a few years back and these teenagers in a truck ran over the poor thing then backed up over it again. Some people...well can we even call them that!
 
I know some people are just cruel. No other way to describe them. I forgot that I also saved a yellow belly slider turtle. I about got ran over myself haha. I know that you really aren't suppose to move turtles, but he was on a major highway and we took him to a park that had a freshwater river, and swamp, and everything he could want. He took right off into the swamp. I hope he makes it. I got pics of him too!! I promise I'll start a thread of our trip with pics. Things have just been hectic. I'll get them up tonight!
 
Yay! I'm glad you guys had a good time! And a big grats on your first WC corn!

Geez I hate to hear about the terrible people that run over things for fun. Kinda makes me want to chase them down in a monster truck yelling how do you like it now?
