Hello from an accidental snake owner!

My name is Becca. I joined a few days ago so I could see the pictures that my partner Margaret (VampMN) wanted me to see. Well, today was the start of Repticon in Columbia, South Carolina, so we went down there so Margaret could buy a snake. We saw lots of snakes - and other critters, too! I got to meet zeewhiz (hey, Matthew!) and Walter Smith and Michael from Tennessee. Margaret was able to get the snake she's been wanting since she first saw it - and I'll let her tell you about it. But I fell in love with a little ghost stripe that Matthew had at his table, and I couldn't resist buying it. Absolutely beautiful little guy!

So that's how I've become a snake owner: didn't mean to, wasn't going to, but when I held the ghost stripe and felt it gliding across my hands, I just had to have him!

Fortunately Margaret has been doing lots of research on the care and feeding of corn snakes, so what I don't know I can depend on her to catch me up. And I'm going to do my research too, because any animal you're going to keep in captivity deserves to have the best care you can give it.

Here's pics of my snake. I haven't named him yet.

Welcome Becca! He is a cutie. Soon the house will be overflowing with snakes. They are like potato chips, you can't stop at one.

Welcome to the forum Becca! I was the same my daughter wanted a snake and I did not have any interest in them but now we each have 3! lol

Thanks for the welcome! Three each, eh? Kind of like tattoos or (as someone said up above) potato chips: you can't have just one!

What a start to the addiction! He is just yummy :) Welcome!

He is a good start to the addiction! Though this morning he's hiding under the aspen over the heat tape; I suspect he's a bit chilly. That spot is about 82 degrees F, and the other side is 71.3.

Thanks for the welcome!

I've finally got a name for him: since I'm a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and this is my number one snake, and it's a boy... his name is Riker.

That's an adorable snake and I love the name! It's great that both of you can enjoy snakes together now. Hobbies are always better when someone shares your interest!
