I just got my baby corn snake at the reptile show in columbus on the jan 14th. I saw her in her little cup device and fell in love and my girlfriend bought her for me as a gift:) My question is what kind of morph or whatever is it. the cup says het charcole, and i looked charcole up and they seem to be way darker than mine. heres a couple pics

I really like how her pattern breaks in spots. I have also yet to name her.

Welcome!

Pretty li'l corn you have there! The photos are dark, but I can see a hint of orange color on the neck. So it is probably a normal or classic type corn.

"Het" means carrying a hidden genetic trait that you can't see. But if you ever breed it with a charcoal or another het charcoal, then some of the babies will be charcoal, assuming the label is correct.

Have fun on the forum!

okay thank you for explaining this to me! she seems to have abit of red near the head part of her body too. ill get some better pictures up later! And thanks for the snake complements:)

She is "normal," but she has a REALLY cool aberrant pattern! I guess you w-zag.ould call that Aztec. Or maybe zig-zag. It isn't really typical of either. But really, really pretty!!

*quick update* she just shed for the first time since I have had her. It looks as though it went well, but she was very sketchy after it was all said and done. Is this normal? Also she is still nameless. Im slackin in the name department:/

WOW!!!!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE those funky saddles on her!!!
She is definately a normal, but a really really cool one.

She needs a name!! A critter this cool deserves a really nice one too. :)

Get crackin' :)

What do you mean by "sketchy"? If she shed in pieces, then let her soak in cool water before she sheds, or raise her humidity a bit. I let my snake soak for about 15 minutes three times prior to shedding, and that makes the shed a lot better and in one piece.

I'm from Cbus too!! Love the expo!

I've been thinkin hard, I'm usually good with names, they just pop in my head after a while. She did shed in pieces, but I meant she was really jumpy afterward, she's usually pretty calm. How does one raise the humidity in the tank? Im mad I missed the EXPO this time around, I wanted to go get some bulk pinkies. I just had to go buy 5 of em for $5 which suckes compaired to 100 for $20. Oh she started to coil around her food too. She wont eat it off the ground either, I have to dangle it around her.

I think that their skin is sensitive right after a shed. :shrugs: I've noticed this too. It is normal.

To raise humidity, you can:
  • Mist the tank with water a few times a day
  • Move the water dish over to the warm side (but you have to make sure that the water doesn't all evaporate)
  • Put a 'wet hide' in the tank (take a tupperware container. Take some spagnum moss or paper towels, get them wet, wring them out. Put a hole in the tupperware container big enough for the snake to enter. Put the wet stuff in the container. The snake will go in here and get all moistened.
  • TIP: Don't leave the wet hide in there all the time, only before a shed. Your snake can get scale rot.
  • Put a wet sponge in the tank, on the warm side.
  • If your tank has a screen top, cover the top with saran wrap/damp washcloths/something else to keep the humidity in.

You can just do ONE of these things. Not all of them... that would be overkill. You only need to increase humidity when your snake is in blue.
