my corn is going to die tonight.
I just took him out for feeding time and well I noticed he was limp he didn't struggle or really move a whole lot. Be has just started growing for once. I threw in a small pinkie and is not interested in it he has always been a great eater. This is the same behavior I noticed before my milk and bp died hours before they died. I don't want to lose him :(

What's wrong I feed them every 7 days temps are controlled and generally have water.

Any advice asap would be appreciated!

What exactly were your temps? And "generally have water?" What does that mean?

If you can give the forum a bit more detailed specifics regarding your husbandry, they might be able to pinpoint a problem.

One more question...where did your snakes come from? Were they petstore purchases?
 
the uth is set at 83. By generally having water I mean about 70% of the time as it dries out within a day or two

the snake was 20grams but jumped to 40 after a two month hiatus of regurging he finally started growing over the last month (there is 3 months between this period). He recently shed on the first and all was well up until some point from today to three days ago. He is kept in a reg 20gal tank on aspen with two hides and a driftwood branch.

All my snakes are 'petshop' snakes. They order them from a breeder...whom it is I Am unaware but they take very good care of them at the store and the employees are very knowledgeable.
 
I'm sorry to hear that, BlueDolphins. You said that your UT was set for 83; is the substrate temperature actually that? I'm not clear on if that was the temperature or maybe a thermostat setting.

As far as water goes, animals do need to have access at all times; having said that, obviously they sometimes spill it, and not having access to water 100% of the time isn't generally fatal. If your corn got overheated and couldn't get water when it wanted it, that could be a problem.

I'm a little confused about the "two month hiatus of regurging." Does that mean a series of regurges?

If the snake was doing well, and that changed suddenly, you might look for an environmental cause. Diseases that act that fast are possible, but rare. Was there some new type of cleaning product used near the viv? Pine-sol, Lysol, and some air fresheners are very hazardous to corn snakes. Was there something different about the water?

I'd thought of possibly Cryptosporidium from the viv sharing thing but really if the poor thing dies a necropsy is the only real way to tell...

I never had a water bowl dry out in 1 or 2 days... And one of my water bowls (I keep 2) is REALLY small. Considering your snake is drinking regularly (not excessively), are you sure the temperatures are in the mid-high 80's in the warm side? Did you double check it with a different thermometer? A faulty thermostat could be showing something on the display and doing something different.

I hate to make it sound like this, but is it possible that you didn't rinse out the tank well enough after you bleached? Could it possibly have been bleach poisoning?
 
The thermostat and the thermometer read 82f.

The water is the same tap water that is perfectly safe.

You see our house is dry so any amount of stet dries out quick the betts bowls I have to add water to weekly and our 90gal tank needs a refil biweekly.

The tank was cleaned well...I rinsed it for a long time and I could not detect any bleach (and I have unordinarly good smell) so I doubt this, as I used a 1:10 dilution.

I agree, If you had three animals die the same you need to get a necropsy done on the last one.

Either one. But I glad he doing better but....you need to get a bigger water bowl because the water should Not dry up in a few days at all. If the water is drying up like that I think it is also affecting you snake. Do you use a hydrometer?
 
I keep small "crock" bowls in my cages and they typically dry up in about 3-4 days if I don't change them. I drill more ventilation holes in my boxes than many folks, though. FWIW, I've been doing it this way for 20+ years with success. Using larger bowls has been more problematic. You'll get a few "soakers" and "bowl defecators" that will drive you crazy if you have enough snakes. And I like to bleach/wash every bowl at every water change. It may be overkill, but it only takes a few minutes and I've always kept a lot of w/c animals.

okay when I first got him he was around 16 grams or so... This was back on february of this year. He was in a ten gallon tank that I kept new snakes in until they were ready to be moved into a 20. Well everytime I fed him he's regurged exactly 2-3 days later. I tried full pinkies and parts yet he always regurged. The temps were the same as they are now, on aspen (fed in a seperate container) I changed cages his layout and the tanks location when somewhere after 2-3months he just stopped yet nothing was changed since the trial beforehand.
He has yet to regurge a single meal since and has never refused a meal exxept yestirday.

He does seem to be doing better today though he was moving a bit more and wasn't so still.
 
At three regurges, I usually fed the puny hatchlings off to kings. In my experience, if a long wait and tiny meal still caused a regurge, the animal usually died slowly. How many times did your snake regurge and still bounce back from it?

Oh I'm not sure the computer I kept my records on crashed bit it was probably around 7/8.
