Help with Caramel vs Classic, Motley & Tessera?

Tavia

Elemental Exotics
Going to need some more experienced eyes on this clutch I've got hatching now. The pairing is a Tessera het Motley, poss het Caramel to Caramel Motley.

Can I get some comparison pics of hatchling Classics vs Caramels? And is there a good way to tell which is what when Motley is in the mix with Tessera? Thanks!

As to the babies out so far, baby one I'm thinking Classic Tessera, yes?

Baby number 2, thinking Classic Tessera?

Baby number 3, maybe Caramel Tessera? Don't think Motley is involved with these first 3?

Pip number 4, harder to tell but Classic? Will get better pictures once it's out.

Pip number 5, maybe a Caramel?

Pip number 6, quite sure this one looks Classic.

Oh my GOODNESS!! I can't really chime in much (I'm not super familiar with Tessera - especially in regards to how it might affect Motley) other to say they are GORGEOUS!!

Also with the limited knowledge I have I'd say your guesses are fair. My only bit of two cents is to wait until after their first and/or second sheds, because sometimes those first few sheds can be game changers.

Your suspect Caramel Tessera might be making me a Tessera fan! Can't wait for more pics, and to hear other's opinions.

I agree, wait a few sheds and it's probably more obvious. Honestly, Motley and Stripe in Tesseras are really hard to figure out. Normally you can use the belly to see if it's white or not but in Tessera sometimes normal Tesseras have white bellies. Maybe some more experienced breeders can chime in to help you with that :)

Two more babies out, thinking both are Classics and no Motley with the Tessera?

Baby number 4.

MxR51515-6 is now out, pretty sure another Caramel Tessera? This is the one labeled pip number 5 up above.

Tessera will definitely override the motley as it's a dominant gene. I think the caramels tend to start out with the grayer look when they're hatchlings I believe so I think you labeled them all well.

Thanks, everyone! I just wanted that poss het Caramel to prove out so bad, that I'm afraid I'm seeing what I want to see, not what is. Good to know my eyes aren't playing tricks.

Interesting. The 8th baby is out now too (pics later) and looks to be a Caramel Tessera. Since I'd think there "should" be at least one markedly Motley baby by now and there is not, that got me thinking and I looked into the Tessera Sire's background and guess I was mis-remembering his hets, he is maybe only 66% poss het motley, not 100% like I was thinking. So looking like we hit one 66% het and maybe missed the other. Still have 4 unpipped eggs left in this clutch.

Congrats on the babies! I haven't worked with the Caramel gene. I think you have them labeled correctly, but I think you will know better once they shed.

Tessera will always be my favorite gene to work with!

MxR51715-9 is out now and 9.2 grams. Really can't tell on this one, it looks in between the other Classics and Caramels, in appearance. Leaning towards Classic though?

The Tessera Sire to these was himself from a Tessera to Tessera pairing and with 10 out of 12 eggs being Tessera so far, I'm starting to think/hope he might actually be a homo Tessera?! My mathy husband actually ran the odds on getting that many Tessera from a het Tessera and they were quite high. But I'm aware that Murphy and Mother Nature don't always follow mathematical probabilities ... So if the last two eggs also turn out to be Tessera, how many more eggs/all Tessera, would he need to sire before I might be able to consider him a "proven" homo Tessera?

I'm thinking you've got a homo tessera sire there! Wow...
Great looking babies. I have no experience with caramel in babies but they are all beautiful.

Yeah, pretty jazzed about the Super Tessera thing and him having the one poss het (Caramel) that I most wanted him to have!

I ended up cutting the last 2 eggs, since they were taking so long to pip on their own. Unfortunately one of them was DIE and the other is alive but I'm not sure yet if it's alright. Couldn't tell why the DIE one didn't make it ... But both of them are Tessera as well, so the sire is almost certainly a Super.
