Hello, I'm the new owner of a new corn snake I bought from Petco. I'm not sure of the sex yet and I don't want to hurt the snake trying to figure it out. I believe he/she is about 6 months old. I used the serpwidget and he/she is 17.5 inches. I call it a him for now. He shed last night and I'll have had him for a week tomorrow. Two weeks ago I was terrified of snakes and I was initially looking into getting a lizard. The recommended videos on youtube sparked my interest in pet snakes. The instant I held the little guy for the first time I was hooked. I ended up buying him the next morning. I'm really excited for this journey and love all the great information on this site so far.

It is an exciting journey. I got my corn at Petsmart and don't know the sex either. Unless you are breeding, it's not all that important, though in a few years, in the spring the sex may reveals itself though behavior. If not behavior you may be able to tell by tail shape. I keep going back and forth on mine. A few weeks ago the tail looked female and this week it looks male to me. I have to wait until my snake gets older. Mine weighs 19 grams now.

Thanks all, he is still settling down though. He's kind of flighty still and tries to get away. He's been biting me, but no strikes. He'll be slithering around and he'll rub his nose on me and then jus open wide and bites down for a few seconds and lets go. Today was day 7 from his last meal so I gave in last night and fed him. They said he was on 4-5 pinkies at the store but I gave him 3 last week and 3 again last night. I need to buy a scale so I can weigh him.

I will be there, at the Inland Reptile Table with Nick Mutton and Mark Goyer.
They are Carpet Python breeders, but are great friends of mine.
I will have mostly Crested Geckos and enclosures, as I only have a couple snakes available right now.
There will be several great breeders of many species there!

Gorgeous amel motley... and you're in luck. Because it's an amel, you can probably just 'candle' it to find out the gender.
Hold the snake's tail up to a small light source like a penlight. At the base of the tail, just past the vent, is where you want to shine the light. If it's a male, you should see a dark red/purplish area. If it's a female, it should be a uniform color.
Being an amel AND a motley, you might not even really need a light.

Thats a neat trick I'll have to try out. I fed him last night so he's in his no touch phase for a couple days. I think once I've had him for a couple years I may look into getting another and maybe breed them. All the morphs are so interesting to me. I'm just not sure about what I'd do with all the babies yet.
I decided to name my little guy Motley since he has that pattern and it can go for male or female. Its been about 48 hours since he ate and I got him out for about 15min and I held him up to the light and I could see inside him. It looks like he still has the 3 lumps of dark matter in him which I'm guessing are going to be come out in the next few days, but I also looked past the vent and he's got a small dark mass just past the vent so I'm going with those being his penes so he's male 
He didn't try to bite me once, so now I know that was saying he was hungry. He sure is a curious little guy but once he's been seen he tails it to a hiding place.
