Hip hip horray! I finally got my first pip today!

I finally got my mice in today! So now I have plenty to feed to the babies. And more food for the adults as well, so I am happy about that. Still haven't gotten 2 of my babies to eat yet. I tried crickets and I don't think either one ate them. I haven't checked to see yet, if the crickets are still in the containers. But i don't think they did. i will buy some things when I get paid in the beginning of Sept. to force feed these two that are not eating. And there is one baby that did eat once for me about 19 days ago but it's not ate since. So i have to try and force feed it as well. The rest of them are doing very good on eating.

Thanks Rdoyle. I haven't had any luck yet. Actually this morning around 2:30am I was cleaning all the little ones container's out...I got one baby out of its container it happened to be the one that hasn't eaten in 20 days, but anyway, it flew right out of my hand and onto my bedroom floor. I had stuff everywhere, on my lap, next to me on the bed and infront of me by my feet. Anyway, I had to move things away from me just for me to get up and try to get it...but by the time I did he was already heading behind my upright mini freezer and going behind it....so I had to move thinggs around and off the top of it , just so I could tip it over sideways so I could look underneath it....by the time I did that it was long gone. So baby 16-which is an Amelanistic or really bright orange/red/white colored one is somewhere around the house. I looked, and looked, for it all along the sides of the walls, moving anything in my way. I looked in the closet taking things out of it, and moved things away from the walls. But I didn't find him/her. So now I have one escaped baby. :(

I've been looking around for him/her...just not any luck yet. I'm going to put out a pinky mouse in a little toilet paper role thing along the wall tonight before going to bed, I'm hoping it will eat and sit still but since it's not the best of eaters I'm not sure that will work with this little one. And I will put out a water dish as well.

wow! Cant believe i missed this thread! First...congrats on the little ones hatching! As for theone that got away....probably still under the mini fridge...theres heat there...maybe went up inside of it? If thats possible. I'd sit the pinkie and water close to it...... As for you remaining non eaters...dont be afraid to try a live pinkie. Or something different...like marinading a pinkie in chicken broth. Or maybe scenting a pinkie with rat..just rub the pinkie on the rat...corns just Love rat pups! I've even heard of soaking pinkies in tunafish....not sure if it worked!

Thanks on the congrats! Rich, I've already tried many things to get the 2 non-feeders to eat. I've tried live pinks, I've tried fresh-killed pinks, I've tried pinks marinated in chicken bouilion broth, rubbed and scented with hamster/gerbil used bedding, fish oil from gel caps and f/t pinks. I've tried braining, and even went as far as trying crickets...but none of those things have worked up to this point. Tonight, I went ahead and put the few that didn't eat including the 2 that hasn't eaten at all in little deli cups with clear lids/and air holes and put some aspen bedding in each deli cup and the snake inside of it with a f/t pink. Put them all up on top of the third level of my containers/hoping they get enough warmth and covered the little deli cups with a couple of layers of paper towels in the hopes of them eating tonight sometime when it's dark and quiet. We will see when I get up tomorrow after noon if they eat or not.

I've still yet to put mouse out for the escaped one and water which I will do when I go to bed. I'll ask the pet store in the mall here if they order rat pups or not, I know they order baby pinky mice and get them in once a week at the store, but not sure about rat pups.

I am soooooooooo happy to say that I got another non-feeder my baby #5 the original hypo corn that I was wanting to keep to eat it's very first f/t pinkie mouse this morning! putting it in the deli cup with aspen bedding and paper towel over the lid worked! I am so happy to get this little one to eat. Now I just have 1 left that has not eaten yet. Baby #7 which is one of my ghost corns. I also put in baby 14-snow, which had eaten but it had been 12 days , it ate in a deli cup tonight also, and so did baby 11-amel. It was one that had eaten a couple of times but hadn't for a long long time. Baby 18 which is an Anery - also is in a deli cup tonight because it hasn't eaten in 6 days, but I checked on this one and the pinkie is still in deli cup at this time. So baby 7-ghost has not eaten at all and baby 18 hasn't eaten in 6 days so it's in a deli cup as well. I don't know if there is a chance of them eating their pinkie's still but I am hoping when I wake up the pinks will be gone.

Did you put tape along the edges of the wall. alot of them us tape to if he is still missing. congrats on the feed

No, I didn't want to use tape because I didn't know what kind would be best. I only have the heavy duty masking tape/ grey tape. And knew it was to strong to use because I had one baby get stuck on it once already by accident. And it was hard for me to get it off witout being very very scared of hurting it. I did put two little water containers in the bedroom and a pinkie in a paper towel role along the walls.

The mouse I put out for the escaped baby dissapeared but we have these huge black ants, and they were all over the paper towel role inside of it, and I think they are the ones that ate the pinkie mouse, and not the baby corn snake. I haven't seen any other could be evidence of the baby still being around in the room. It's probably long gone now.

Tonight I fed all the babies again. The majority of them are really good eaters, but a few just are on the picky side and like to eat in the little deli cup containers with aspen bedding and a couple of layers of paper towel over them with the lights out for a couple of hours and they eat finally. I decided that I wasn't going to wait any longer on getting baby #7 which is a ghost corn to eat, so I tried a few different things and was trying to force down a adult mouse foot, but that wasn't working, he/she just kept spitting it out over and over again, then I tried an actual pinkie mouse but that didn't work either, so I finally tried a adult mouse tail and after two attempts I finally got the tail all the way down it's throat except the very tip of it which it swallowed on its own. So at least it got something in it's belly now. Ofcourse I was shaky the whole time I was doing this, since it was my first time having to do that. And I didn't like doing it at all. I was so afraid that I was going to hurt it but I was determined to get something in it's belly and finally did, although I'm concerned that he/she might have something wrong with it and not be able to digest it or something....at least I know I tried. I had to force feed a couple of others this morning as well since they hadn't eaten in several days but they weren't as difficult as baby #7 was. Baby #3 which is Ivory is the only one that didn't take a pinkie mouse tonight but normally a pretty good eater, I think it might be in shed again, and that's why didn't eat.

I force feed mouse tails only to stubborn babies, since they go in easily if you have done it a couple of times. Make sure the tail is wet, press it against the mouth of the baby (hold its head between thumb and index finger just behind/against the jaws) and wiggle until it opens its mouth. while pressing it into the throat gently, make some short turning motions to wriggle it into the throat. Once the throat opens up a bit and you get a bit in, it is quite easy to push further. I keep a tea spoon at hand to use the back end of it to push the tail just past the jaws, so the baby can close it's mouth after it. I gently massage the throat a bit with my tumb to lower it a bit more and then I'm done.

The tail was a little wet, well it was slimmy to since I had once already had it half way down the baby's throat, but it came back up and out, so I did it a second time and I got it to go all the way down it's throat except the tip and it swallowed it on it's own. This was the first time ever doing it so I'm hoping I didn't push or tear skin inside the throat.
Thanks, for the tips.

The baby ghost corn that was force fed a adult mouse tail 2-3 days ago has yet to defecate so I am kinda worried that it isn't able to digest the mouse tail? What should I do? It seems to be alert and active and moving around fine but still hasn't gone yet. Good news is I just sold two of my snow corn babies. I met the two girls in Martinsville, IN, they were coming from Franklin,IN so we met half way. One of the girls bought one for her sister as a 16th birthday gift and one bought one for herself. They were already set up to take em home so that was good. Told them both to keep me updated on the progress of the babies and to come here and check out this site and www.iherp.com as well. I'm gonna miss the babies, they were really sweet, and calm. But I have one to keep as well so I'm happy with that.

Let's see, baby #3 which is my Ivory-snow and baby #4 which is a normal shed their skins for the second time. I've fed all the babies this morning, but three of them refused to eat. ofcourse baby #5 which is the hypo that has eaten finally but didn't want to eat this time around. Baby #7 which is a ghost-that's only been force fed a adult f/t tail didn't take a mouse either, tried force feeding but absolutely refused it. And baby #18 which is an anery whom has eaten 4 meals but has been refusing a few times as well, including this morning. The majority of the babies are excellent eaters. Just have three to work with.

Well, this past weekend I made a trip to Terre Haute and sold three more baby corn snakes of mine. I sold a normal , baby 4, and a ghost corn baby 17, and baby 9 which was an Amel. Made 70 bucks off of 3 babies. I guess thats a good amount but not really in this for money just the enjoyment.

Thanks, Rdoyle! Most of them are doing great. Just have 3-5 of them that won't eat in their regular containers for some reason , they prefer to be in a deli cup container with paper towel over them for darkness. Weird, huh? Ofcourse, I still have that one ghost corn that hasn't eaten at all on its own.
Another baby was sold yesterday, to a couple that is getting one for their son's 9th birthday on October 23....it's really awesome...and they only live across the main road from where I live so that is even more cool. They picked out the other ghost corn that is a really good eater and the father wanted to get one for himself tooo lol especially after coming over and looking at them all and seeing my adult ones I have , he really liked baby 1 which is an Anery like my Diamond girl. But the mom wasn't to pleased with the idea of having 2 in the house and she didn't believe they had the space in the house for a second one...dad really wants one though, and as they walked out of the house, he said he'd get back with me on the second one :). So Hilary, if you ever get around to reading this thread anymore I'm sorry but i've sold all the ghost corns that are eating for me anyhow, and I don't have anymore snows cause I sold all of them a couple of weeks ago. I have one normal left, 2 anery's left, and 2 Amel's left maybe a hypo for sale, but kinda wanting to keep it longer to make sure it's eating regularly for me and I think that's all I have.
