Hoggy pic!

This is my 10-month old hognose, Baldrick, looking as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. He has just got his appetite back after a long hunger strike and is back to his usual feisty self! Anyone have any other hoggy pics...?

This is charlie my 08 Tri-Colored Hognose. Hes really cool looking and mad chill. He'll just sit there in your hand and relax. Hes also got a crazy feeding response. Maybe its not a true hoggy but it's distanly related to our North American hognoses and has a lot of similarities such as the hognose, loving toads, rear fangs, and a slighty venomous sliva.

I think he's a 2004. I _highly_ recommend this species.

Nanci, that's an excellent specimen for a tri-color. Normally I don't care for the tri-colors much but yours looks great.

Thank you! He's a fun snake to handle, too. He has a unique personality compared to the corns/kings.

Gotta love those hoggies. They're fantastic. I'm currently trying to resist taking home one of the Western's a friend recently hatched. Would you believe they've been finding it hard to shift the hatchlings?

Jones, that's a fantastic looking hoggie. Did you breed it yourself? If not, who'd you get it from? I'm currently looking for a breeder but KJUN or SouthMountainReptiles both look like good options.

They certainly are cute little things.

They remind me of an episode of Futurama...where we meet the Professors clone son...except his nose is squished up because he "left him in his first test tube too long"

I can't believe we're talking hoggies and DeadMouse hasn't dropped in...

DOH! I guess I was asleep at the wheel (again) :boring: I've just had so much going on that I just don't take the time to post much anymore. Anywho...

Awesome hogs everyone, seriously! I don't care whether they are normals or morphs or whatever species (Heterodon or Lystrophis) they are. Hognose are without a doubt our favorite snake. :)

Here's our progress so far this year:
eggs.jpg

The top two are separate clutches (laid 2/10 and 3/27) of South American Bi-Color eggs from the same parents. The middle two are from the same clutch (laid 4/15) from a Western Possible Double Het Pink Pastel/Hypo to Pink Pastel breeding. The last bottom container was laid just last week (4/21) from pairing a normal Western to the same Pink Pastel male from the previously mentioned clutch.

Most of the eggs look good except this last clutch, 3 are going bad. But that is pretty much expected since this was our first year breeding that female and she had a decent sized clutch for her first time laying. We also have a gravid albino female but she's yet to lay a good clutch of eggs for us, last years clutch from her were all duds.

I'm also still dealing with our first clutch that hatched last month. I've still not been able to get them to eat despite trying live, frozen, brained, beheaded, toad scented, even worms. I bought some tuna in water tonight, so I'll try the tuna water scenting trick tomorrow and see if I can get any results from that. They look healthy and are active, but I'm starting to get a little concerned having been a month out of the egg now and not having eaten. They are just so darn tiny, even newborn pinkies or even pinky heads for that matter would be a big meal for these guys.

Other than that, everyone seems to be doing alright despite a really bad shed on my tri-color male which might have cost him one of his eyes. It really bums me out, but unfortunately these things do happen and he's still active and eating for me, so that's at least good news. But everybody else is doing great and they all are growing fast. Even the 4 normals I hatched out last year are getting so big now, it's hard for me to imagine when they first came out of the egg and how little they were. Man, this is such a great hobby!

Here's a pic of our Axanthics I took tonight:

I love these snakes! Even my friends who aren't too keen on snakes have to agree that Baldrick is adorable. Might have to get another one... I'd love a tricolour, but don't think they're easy to come by in the UK. Anyone know of a good source in the North?
