How about some Chocolate?

So even though I contracted a terrible cold, I dragged myself to the reptile show so I could get mice for my snakes! Once I got there, I decided I needed a reward for getting there even though I'm sick, so I found a little chocolate to take home with me.

She is a little chocolate king with a stripe down her back, she is active, yet didn't rattle her tail, musk, or bite. I was going to get a MBK, but the ones at the show did not look too healthy--one had an obviously inflamed vent, and they were in general skinny. Plus I fell in love with this girl. She is hard to get pictures of, cause she is an active girl, but I'll try to get some better once she's settled in a couple of days.

Sarah, I love her!!! At Terri's table in Nov, her partners had chocolate kings and I just fell in love with them. Their colors were so rich and smooth. That was the first time I'd ever seen one. You have a beauty!! What did you name her?

She is Cocoa, which isn't the most original name, but is easy to remember. She is SO calm, the other kings I held were tail rattling, and thrashing, she was just so calm and active. It is hard to catch her color, but it is so rich, and the pattern is just like a swirl of chocolate!

Thanks gals, I'm still feeling terrible, but happy I got this little girl and the little rosy boy I got too. She is still out and about investigating her tub, I hope she likes it!

WOW!

I love chocolate! LOL
Thats a cool snake, never seen a chocolate phase before though very cool looking!

Thanks guys--I know these cali kings get bigger then the MBK, but is the care basically the same besides that?

Sarah, I keep my kings just like I keep my corns. They're a little more skittish than my corns, but other than that, they're wonderful. I've found that they DO prefer slightly smaller prey items than my corn, but still have awesome appetites. i.e. My adult king seems to prefer two smaller mice rather than one large mouse, even though measuring the 1.5 x body width rule would indicate he can take the larger size. Not sure that this can be a blanket statement for all kings, but it's what I've noticed with my own.

I just love your new baby! I was so tempted to get one at Terri's booth. The color is simply gorgeous. I'm loving your pics!

Thanks lori! I've been trying to find out how big she'll get--I believe Chocolate kings are just a phase of Cali kings, but I'm not sure. I'd like to find out more info on how big she'll get and any thing else.

Anyone have any experience with chocolate kings?

That's a cool snake! I _think_ chocolate is a Cali morph, or locality, really, but I am not positive. Tyflier would know...I keep my Cali the same as a corn, except like Lori says, she prefers smaller prey items. So for a 400g adult, or there abouts, she's eating mostly two or three fuzzies or sometimes hoppers. I have never gotten her to take a weaned.
