Ok so my 9 year old Kenny loves our snakes and wanted one of his very own. I found a super gentle adult amel for a smoking price and got it for him. He just loves her to death but now has decided he would really really like to have more snakes. I told him his first was a freebee for having a great school year last year and for helping so much out at the farm this summer with no complaint. After that though he was going to have to get his own money and pay for them. I would be willing to help pay for feeding and housing if he would foot the bill for the snakes he wants. He has been doing everything he can to get a nickle. He's been walking around all the area lakes when we go fishing and collecting trash as well as saving every single pop can he can find so he can recycle them. He has been helping the neighbor lady keep her yard mowed and she offered to pay him when she found out he's trying to save money for a new pet (didn't tell her it was a snake though). When we go to the firing range he picks up spent brass and then brings it home and punches out all the primers so we can recycle that too. He has found ways to basically get free money honestly so he can have what he truly wants. What he really wants just so happens to be a breeding pair of hypo brooks kings................. he's got a ways to go but he hasn't given up yet.

Sorry just love my boys and wanted to brag on him to snakey people who may apreciate it a little more than most.

Kids like yours make me realize theres hope for the next generation lol

Its really nice to see an intelligent and hardworking person, especially when the world is telling them they don't have to be =3

That's a great story. You should definitely feel proud. Not only that he's trying to play his role in getting a new snake (and taking the responsibility upon himself), but it also sounds like he's really learning how to play a vital role in making the earth a little cleaner and better by picking up trash and recycling materials for money.

We've always been big on trash cleanup with our local lakes and streams and I have on ocasion kept cans seperate to recycle them. Now he asks when we can go out and he can pick up trash. My 6 yr old is on the band wagon too helping him pick up cans and making plans to move stuff in their room to put a rack eventually. Surrently they have just less than 50 bucks saved up. I'll keep y'all posted on the progress they make and when they get something.

As a side note he got on here and was looking in the "other" for sale ads. He found the pair of hypo flame brooks and is dead set to have them. We'll see how he does and how quickly he can close the gap.

Wow!! What a kid! I wish more kids were motivated like that. I am very impressed! My son helps me out a lot too around here but he doesnt want more snakes LOL He thinks we have enough, especially when baby season is upon us but he does get paid for his works but gets games instead. hehe

Not sure how it is in your area, but watch Craig's List for tanks and such. I picked up a 20 gallon long yesterday with a custom built cast iron stand/wine rack for 10 bucks. They were surprised I paid the asking price. The son, I'm guessing 6 or 7, is saving up to buy mice and a fancy habitate for them.

I've got several extras left from our move to tub racks. I build my own tub racks. I love them and I use the taller tubs so they look a little more habitat like and have lights in the back so you see in them really well. I'm going to try and. Photo step-by-step the next one so everyone can see it. I'm pretty proud of them.

That is awesome! it sounds like your on has a great head on his shoulders. Most of the kids these days will just throw a fit until their parents brake down and bought it for them. Its great to hear that some of the younger generation is still willing to work for what they want, especially when its snakes!

Your kid is awesome! There is hope for our future. Lol but in all honesty I think you deserve a congratulations for raising this kid and teaching him valuable life lessons

He's got a great work ethic which many poeple (not all) and kids today lack. It seems like most Parents nowaday just give their kids everything they want and then have to learn the hard way later in life. He is going to go far and be very successful. Keep us posted on his progress and his collection.
