How Do You Know...?

How do you know a mouse is pregnant? I have my pair in a 10 gallon, at first they seemed to hate each other but they stopped squeaking and stuff. Any way, that was about 2-3 weeks ago. I have noticed the female is wide and round, with almost like a beer belly (lol) She's bigger than the male. Is she pregnant or fat? Also, how long do you wait for them to give birth? Anyone? :shrugs:

Sounds pregnant to me, they kind of look like they have a ping pong ball in each side. I usually give them some torn tissue or paper towel mine seem to like making a nest out of, also empty paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls. Good luck. susang

If you pick the female up by the tail, the females lower half will look like that of a golf ball. That's how I've always determined whether they were carrying.

3 week gestation for mice.

Hold the mouse by the tail. If the belly looks like it is filled with sand or something...she's probably pregnant.

I think she is!! Yay!!! I'm so excited! I have paper towel rolls for her and she does make kind of a nest. She and her mate pile the substrate on top of the hide and stuff. Little architects... :)

You may not be able to tell just by sight if it's her first litter. First litters are usually relatively small, and the females don't seem to get quite as fat and obvious looking.

I checked on her today and she seems even bigger.. I'm pretty sure she's got babies in her, why else would her stomach be 3x bigger than the males? :shrugs:
Thanks guys.

I checked on her again today after school and...
SHE GAVE BIRTH!!! There are 7 healthy babies, no dead ones and this is just great!!! YAY!
