I don't wanna get pooed on!

I've heard that most people here swim their snakes so that they don't get pooed on. How does this actually work?

I've never done this, but I've only been poo baptised once. I think the more you hold your snake, the more comfortable s/he'll become, so that startling effect will be less likely to happen. However, this is only my theory. I've read of a few snakes here that "hit" their owners every time they're handled.

Have you gotten your snake yet? There's a reptile show at the fairgrounds in Indy this saturday. You'll have many more options than you'll find in the local shops. Higher quality as well. Plus you can get all the supplies/food/bedding etc in one place.

*this is not a paid endorsement.* ;)

I wouldn't say most people here swim their snakes so they don't get pooed on. I'd say a few, a VERY few, poophobic people do. It's extremely unlikely a snake is going to poo on you, anyway. I have 20 snakes, and I get pooped on _maybe_ twice a year, in a bad year. Guess what- it washes off!

I was wondering about that.
Nobody that takes care of 100+ animals (and has to clean up after them.) will be that paranoid of a little poop.

That's impressive. I get pooped on/musked/peed on once a week in a good week. But I have some special cases.
I agree, it washes off, no harm done.

I swear one of my rat snakes holds it until he sees me.
He's a reluctant feeder, I have to offer a mouse to him 20x until he finally takes it.
Immediately once he has it in his mouth, he DIVES out of his tub and I catch him on the way down.
He poops/pees/musks all over me as I struggle to return him to his home. It's the same every time.
It's not so much poop as it is a collection of every waste product he can generate. It's sooo much more than just poop, and it smells 10x worse.
It's alright, he doesn't let go of the mouse.

:rofl::rofl: Seriously funny. I'm sorta sorry for laughing.

really?
i've handled my hatchling three times and she's pooped on me twice.

As you handle them more they don't poop on you as much anymore, at least on purpose.
It's a defense mechanism. Once they realize you're not going to eat them, they won't see you as a threat.

My guy started it when he was almost 3 yrs old. It wasn't so much the mess that he made on me, but on the carpet that bothered me. I did swim him for several months until he stopped pooping in the bathtub. Once he stopped that, I stopped swimming him and he hasn't done it since. Interestingly enough, he was much more spastic when he was younger than when he started this trick up. I'm just glad he stopped.

Well I have two 3 year old corns, and both of them poo on me if I hold them within about 4 days of feeding. It's really odd. They always have to go RIGHT when I think about putting them back... So normally I just put a little dishrag or something on my lap and when they go its really easy to clean rather than wasting an entire par of pants/ruin the carpet.

I wait until there is a stool in the cage before I hold them...

I don't WANT to get pooed on either! However, I can deal with it. It's not as bad as when a kid does it!

Hahah, Eddie.

I think I've been pooed on by everyone of our birds, and peed on by a couple puppies. It doesn't really bother me because it just happens. What's worse is when something vomits on you. My macaw, Razzie regurgitates food for me because he want to feed me. It's nasty, but out of love, lol :)

My BCI swims herself ... she likes to poo in water .... she has got to be somewhere around 2ish and if she has to poo she gets right in that water bowl .... I have only seen her poo outside of the water once! silly silly snake. OH and the newest member of the fam, "snow", she pooed in her water this week too! But my Dum does not need to nor does she like to swim.

I bathe mine. 2 Days after feeding. Now my bathes are in a container, luke warm water and never more than inch or two in depth. I have a rock for them if they want to crawl out of the water and i am there the whole time(20 mins or so) watching. Mine seem to like it and they usally go poo in the container. I use a reptile friendly cleaner(I can not think of the name) on the container and rinse and dry it well. I use to do it in the tub, but then I relized all the cleaners I used on the tub were not good for the snakes. I do this not because I cann't clean poo. I do it because I think they like it. It also gives me a chance to check the snakes. Making sure no other issues has a risen. And yes I still get pooped on from time to time.
