We are twins! I used a different username when I returned from being banned, as to try to start fresh, and have used only this username since. Not to mention it was Ricky that got us banned the first time :crying:, but it served me well for the most part too ;).
This confusion is nonsense, it would take way to much work to pretend to be twins, and I don't see any logical benefit, clearly one gets the other one banned either way :twohammer.

Actually, it is the same grandfather! He's a hard man to describe, and certainly makes up for the mistakes of my other grandfather (only famous for being "old fashioned", but let's not talk about him ;))

There is no pulling aces out of my sleeve on this one, my grandfather has built a long life on dedication. I would love to post some of his artwork, but without watermarks I think it would be inappropriate. Here is a link about him though, and you might be able to do a google search.

I did. Thank you. It's not surprising for someone to be both an artist and a conservationist. he's following in the footsteps of some of the greats - like Thoreau. Kudos for him....

Nice! I'm glad you were able to check it out, it really means a lot. He is one of the greatest people I have ever met, and it's so hard to describe him.
I don't want to sound like I'm promoting here, but if you have a chance to read one of his books, you might really enjoy it. He reaches me in a much more powerful way than most scientists could, but he has the data and understanding of native wildlife that rivals any.

I just went ahead and ordered Self-portrait with turtles and The year of the turtle. I've got another book I need to read ahead of them, but they'll go on the shelf for when I finish the newest one already ordered and getting shipped!

That is so awesome KJUN, thank you so much for supporting his work. I really think you'll enjoy them, and please tell me what you think once you've read them.

Pretty soon they will have their website up and running again, and at that time my brother and I will be taught the basics, and we'll be keeping up with it. I am fairly illiterate when it comes to hosting websites, keeping up with them, etc... but somehow they didn't pay the domain upkeep fee (correct me if this doesn't make sense), so their website is unavailable at the moment. I went to check on it for a link earlier, but it transferred me to some filthy website rude something .com?, and I guess my grandfather had the same thing happen. Does anyone know why it would link me to a dirty site? especially one with such a different .com name? This is just wrong that this happens, because now people who have their web name might have the same repulsive site appear. Any thoughts on this would be HUGELY appreciated.
 
SPAMmers watch for domain names that don't get renewed. They snatch them up and use them as a mirror or forwarding link to their site - often porn sites. For a few dollars, they can get a URL that already has been advertised and has some level of travel already established. I guess that's how they spend THEIR advertising budget....lol.

To me, it never seemed like a GOOD way to drum up MUCH new business at all, but I guess it must get SOME people to "buy" their produce because it is still very common!

Good luck - I hope they don't have too much trouble getting their URL back. :(

Okay... Bear with me here, if this makes any sense at all. I just found out from my mother, who found out from my grandfather, who found out from his website guy, that "pirates" (I assume a nickname for online peoples who do this for a living) took over the domain name after it went unpaid. Now it will cost $1,800 to get back? I know this sounds confusing, and I hope to gather any understanding of this that I can.
I guess that means a new site is in order? as my grandparents are obviously not going to pay that much to get the site back. Good news, I guess we've gotten a hold of a man who will create a new site, and then my brother and I will be plugged in to do the upkeep, orders, etc... The terrible thing is that my grandparents have advertised this site in many places, even on their business cards, so this perverse site will appear for unsuspecting people, and I hope to god won't reflect poorly on my grandparents.

That's basically a form of "cyber-squatting" in which the person buys the domain right after you've let it go or before a big company is able to purchase the domain, i.e. the .mobi rush and the cybersquatting laws that were enacted because of it, and then hold it for a "ransom" if you want the domain back. It sucks a** and is despicable but it happens. Just have to start over with a new domain and hope too much damage isn't done because of it. Sorry to hear that Micheal. :poke:

The only real disappointment, is that they have already promoted the site, and I would hate for other unsuspecting people to see the filth that popped up for me.
Other than that, I am somewhat happy. It sounds bad, I know, but my grandparents are very illiterate when it comes to web design, online sales, etc... and have been very slow moving because of it. They would rather talk to a million people, take a million opinions, and then get the ball rolling. Which is bad for business, and bad for Ricky and I's hope to become plugged in. Ricky created a site for my mother's paintings, but never got it published due to a lack of initiative from my mother and grandparents in figuring out the rest. It was a beautiful site too, but is now on another CPU, and I'm not sure how to retrieve it again. Point is, my brother knows the basics, and is a quick learner at web type stuff. Me, well, I'm just not quite as savvy, but I learn quick, and would love to get involved. I just think my grandparents need to trust us a little more (at least Ricky :)) as far as website ingenuity, and start as simple and quickly as possible. Rome wasn't built in a day, and I just hope this is the wake up call for my grandparents that the time is now, and the quicker the site gets up, the quicker the sales can happen.

Thanks for the explanation though, that type of online technicality stuff is still kind of foreign ;).
 
Michael, I copied and pasted the link, and it was very interesting to read about your grandfather. Quite an adventurer.
I recognize the MacArthur Foundation as being a major sponsor of humanitarian causes. Including public television.
