Introducing Eevah!

Oh ... My ... GOSH!

It's FINALLY my turn !! I didn't want to introduce my forum-trolling self prior to our new non-legged family addition arrived, so I waited ever so patiently for this day!

Today (2 1/2 hours ago!) my kids and I picked up our baby girl at the Fed-Ex office!

We got her from Stephen Roylance, who was EVER so helpful over the weeks and I can't thank him enough. He was patient with the gazillion emails I sent him and he made sure Eevah would arrive at just the perfect time. And I do want to thank him for hooking us up with this beautiful little worm.

Eevah is a little Blizzard girl, hatched on April 2nd from a pairing of an Opal Bloodred Het Charcoal and an Ultramel Het Charcoal Plasma, and therefor is Poss Het Bloodred Lavender - according to Steve! (I don't think I'll ever figure out Cornsnake-morphs! And to think Genetics was my favorite Biology class - that I did fairly good in btw lol)
Other than her being Blizzard won't matter much though, I highly doubt I'll be breeding her. :poke:

After I placed her little travel cup into her new home I regretfully had to open the lid to her viv back up. I had forgotten to place a humid hide in her tank :awcrap: (Steve thought she might shed in her travels but didn't - and I wanted to make sure that her first shed at our new home wouldn't be a bad one ...)

Opening the tank up again spooked her a bit, and she currently seems to be taking a nap under her paper towel bedding - all curled up. I occasionally see her poke her head up just enough to look over the rim of her cup, but that's about all she's daring to explore just about now. She must explore for some water sooner or later, so I'll just let her come out when she's ready.

She's SO much tinier than I thought she'd be at 4 month old lol. Such a cute little bugger. When you see close-up pictures of hatchlings they seem fairly good sized, until they are compared to a penny in the picture lol. Still I had no idea ...

Well, that's about enough for now! I'll post pictures more pictures as Eevah get's more adventurous and hope she'll eat good for me on our first attempt!

Thanks for reading this, and thank you all for being so helpful to me in my many questions prior to me taking the plunge into this hobby :)

She's adorable! Don't worry, they grow fast!!

If she's blue, still, and she doesn't want to use the humid hide, you can lightly mist the viv and then lay a piece of plastic wrap _loosely_ over the top. I usually mist once every day or three till they shed.

She's very pretty! I love the name! Did you get it from Wall-E? :D

I don't have any experience with blizzards but she does look like she is about to shed in the pictures. :)

Very pretty girl, congrats! Are those hiding spots hand made? kinda hard to see in your pics. I make hides out of air dry clay also, going to make some cowboy themed hides for the hatchling I'm going to give my Brother and sis-n-law for their b-days :D

We DID get the name from Wall-E :) The kids came up with it hehe.
Originally it was EVE - but we figured there were just too many snakes around with the name of Eve ...
And naturally it had to be a white snake .... there was simply no way around it!
It'll be exciting watching her "whiten" out of her baby-pink skin

Yes K.Rene, the hides are hand made hehe. It was a project with the kids, it got them excited about crafting something for the snakelet. You can see the pictures better in this thread in the DIY forums.

Ugh, 8 hours later and she's still in her cup. I feel sorry for her, we were visited by our friends and our (together) 4 kids were quite loud all day. Not the perfect introduction to the family, but I hope that she was so tired from her travels that she managed to sleep it off at least a little bit!
I ended up covering the tank up because the kids were checking on her every 3 minutes. We shall see if she comes out at night when the kids are sleeping and the house is quiet ... wish me luck!

Congrats on your snake. I just got my first snake 23 days ago, and finally got him to eat his first meal with me tonight. One thing I have learned while trolling the threads, is that these guys seem to have a wide range of personalities. Eevah (awesome name), seems to be really comfortable in her deli cup, while Mr Snakey (still in the naming process), absolutely despised that thing, and as soon as I got him home and opened the lid, spent a total 0.0003 seconds in it - and now, he throws an all-out temper tantrum when you get him near it...

Enjoy your new friend. One of the things I have enjoyed the most so far, is the surprising amount of personality Mr Snakey has displayed.

Grats on getting your snake baby to eat!

Eevah was just intimidated. As soon as the kids were going into bed and I turned the major light source out she came out of her cup and started exploring her tank. Seems she did that all night, and is now curled up in one of her vines =) It was SO awesome to watch her and SO hard not to get her out to hold lol.

I know exactly how you feel! When I first joined the forum I was quite intimidated. It seemed like everyone else had such superior knowledge, and I felt like I had a lot to learn.

The good news is this is the BEST place to learn about corn snakes! There is a vast amount of information and experience here. The even better part is that for the most part everyone is very helpful and eager to share information with new comers. Don't be afraid to post around a little bit and get a feel for things. Stick around and eventually your knowledge base will sky rocket.

From a former lurker to another.. WELCOME TO CS.com!!
*cough* and your new addiction *cough cough*

You chose a GREAT breeder to go through, it looks like you have a real gem there. Keep us updated on Eevah. I'm glad you're letting her settle in. It sounds like you have already done lots of homework and you are well on your way to becoming a great corn snake keeper!

Thanks Jessica and Heather!
I've been trolling the forum since May, and I have already experienced how helpful people are around here and how patient the forum community is with newbie questions lol. <3

Eevah just woke up and now my husband and I are glued to the tank watching her roam. She's so beautiful!

Thanks Druddell =)

So I don't want to step on anybodies toes, but we must have the best snake around! There simply can't be a better one ;) She did wonderful in her first handling session and slithered over our hands (all 8 of them!) as if she's never done anything else. She DID have to warm up to the kiddos first, but it didn't take her long.

After reading so many threads of new additions not wanting to eat I was freaked out about her first feeding attempt, but Oh boy was that unnecessary! I prep'ed her meal while my husband was keeping her safe and when he lowered her into the feeding container with the pinkie waiting for her she started eating it while half of her was still clinging to my husbands hands! LOL! She must have been oh so hungry. We fed her in a little see-through critter keeper and I figured I'd cover her up and hide her from the kids so she can eat in peace, but she wasn't even worried about it. She happily munched away with the kids OOH'ing and AAH'ing right next to her. It didn't even take a minute for the mouse to be gobbled up.

Since I wasn't sure if she even knew she had a warm hide in her tank (she stayed in her vines to sleep during the day) that's where I gently placed her after her meal and she stayed in there most of the night.

When she cruised around the following night I didn't even see a bump on her! I was freaked out and thought she might have regurged it. I tried to "smell" some leftover food in her tank since I didn't want to disturb her by checking her tank, but I couldn't smell anything horrendous. So today while she was sleeping I checked her viv and didn't find a slimy globbery mess.

So since the lump in her tummy didn't last all but 24 hours I should bump her up a feed-size? I have two little pinkies left, should I just feed her both of them next week?

Sorry for the long story, thanks for reading :p And thanks for any advice you can give on the prey-size issue!

CONGRATS!!!

I am new too, and I can't wait to receive my two! One I have picked out the other I am waiting to pick ;). I contacted the breeder today, asking when the anery corns will be ready. The waiting if killing me! lol!

I see all the new people post pictures of theirs, and it makes me want to have mine already!

Anyways, congrats she is beautiful!
