Live vs. Frozen/Thawed

BP's are notorious picky eaters period. I am a f/t kind of girl myself and believe all snakes can be converted, but I lack the experience to say this would ALWAYS be the case since hardly anything in life is absolute except death, lol. I will say I had the strangest experience recently with a non snake reptile who went off feed due to breeding season and have successfully got him to eat f/t pinks even though these guys supposidly never eat dead prey so if it is possible with him who knows. It took 3 months, but his weight is back where it should be and I am expecting little chewies now in the next 4 months.

I had a fun experience last night. I bought a live, day-old pink to try to feed to Stupid (who I think it going to become food for another snake very soon) but when she wouldn't take it, I offered it to Dier since he has such an aggressive feeding response. He fled from it. I offered it to Inranahe. She tasted it, then decided that crawling up my arm was more fun. I finally placed the thing in Essan's tank because he at least showed interest but he was heartily confused about what to do with a live mouse. Took about 5 minutes before he finally gulped it down... without constricting. I hate hearing baby mice peep from inside my snake. ;_;

I really don't know what to make of any of that post.. :(

I feed my snow live but he only eats it when I'm near though and I keep an eye on him all the time, he's actually a good striker and has a good grip but I'm still going to feed him knocked outs when he moves to fuzzies

It was to point out that a snake won't always eat live just because they do in the wild. One would normally think that a snake that coils strongly and will leap at a F/T pinky would do the same for a live... and instead my most aggressively hungry snake fled from it.

Actually, they become so accustomed to eating frozen thawed that they do not know what to do with a Live pink. I have had this happen as well when feeding off extra pinks in our mouse colony. I do breed mice just in case I do get a critter to come in that only wants live and also for newly hatched snakes.

But its amusing when you have a corn that is confused by a live pinky. They do not know what to do with it.

*yawn* this again? Why not just do a search for old polls?

f/t.

Don't know it you've ever been bitten by a mouse, but you can't get any more "right there watching it" than actually holding it, so how can anyone expect to stop it from biting a snake if they're a foot or two away?

I've seen enough scared up live-fed snakes in rescue. No thanks.

I don't feed live 'cause I simply feel bad for the little critters, I can't stand to see it. And that post about the pinky peeping on it's way down to being digested is rather disturbing.
