That was my vote . . . either that or he's carrying a gene that causes the body to give off the scent of lizards making it easier to get those picky eaters started. :sidestep:

Close enough, he is missing his left hind foot. I have three hamster colonies and they are all handleable. They are usually get along with each other great, but when this colony had their first litter, I suspect the breeder male did this to him since he was promptly killed by the females not long after I discovered Blackbeard (aka stumpy). It happened when he was just a day or two old and since it was this mommies first litter, I didn't want to take him away to euthanize. Since the injury happened before he was crawling, he doesn't really know any better and gets around great. He seems to have no idea he is missing something. I don't know how he'll do as a breeder, but either way he's got a home.

That is a siberian dwarf though right Carol?! I have honestly never seen a black siberian dwarf. (Keepin' the lizard scented pheronomes a secret are we?!!?)

Awe I've always wanted a pre-amputated hamster . Mines just fat and ugly but such a sweet heart.....He needs a girl friend so I can have lil hamsters. lol

I believe that it is a Campbell's Russian Dwarf Hamster. They have sooo many different colors. I have a black one, a gray/white one, and one that is light gray with almost yellow color on parts of her. The gray/white one is mean because I got her when she was older and she was never handled. OK, shes not mean(doesn't ever bite) but she definitely does not like to be handled.

Well he is simply adorable!! I have a multitude of colors. My favorites are the white with black eyes - but it seems that they don't breed as well.

I hope stumpy rocks the house for you Carol! Hehe.

On a side note - it seems as though the black gene is dominant in my colonies. Do you notice this as well?

The blacks just started popping up here and I have one pair that is just reaching maturity now, so I'll let you know!

Thanks for the pic Jessica . . . So there's normal, tan, white with red eyes, white with black eyes, gray, and black . . . I'm going to have to get on our breeders around here so we can get some of these in the pet store. (I'm not turning into a 'feeder' lover here, just interested in 'new' varieties for the pet store!)

According to this, mine are Solid Black, Red Eyed Lilac, and Solid Opal(although mine has a bit more of a blue tint).
