Milwaukee Zoo Series

ArpeggioAngel

Around Here Somewhere....
As those who know me already know, photography is a major hobby for me. Lately my snakes have been the main focus for me, but this past weekend I went to Milwaukee where my company is headquartered for our company picnic which was held at the county zoo. Took a TON of pictures. The weather was cool with a light drizzle but most of the animals were up and active so it was a great day for photography. I thought I would do a little series to share some of the better shots. Since I have so many photos to edit I am breaking it up and finishing a few each night. So as I process them I will add them to this thread over the next few nights. Hope you all enjoy!

YAY!!!! Mwa-kee represent!! :grin01:

My bellybutton's been puckering and unpuckering since you first told me you had visited. ;)

I was there on my birthday in May and the new giraffe exhibit was still under construction - how is it?

Nice shots all around - I especially like the Dall Sheep and Rhino shots. (And that bear has been there for YEARS!)

Keep 'em coming!

(As an aside - former commercial photgrapher here - what's your setup? Nikon? Canon?)

regards,
jazz

I love the giraffe!

I went to the zoo today myself! (LA Zoo) Took a bunch of pics too. :)

Anyways...BEAUTIFUL pics!!!

Thank you for the kind comments. I should have some more to post this evening.

Dale - the new Giraffe exhibit is very nice! Nice open area without fencing to give an opportunity for great shots. The one I featured here is the youngest of the three at the zoo there. The big one that I really wanted to photograph refused to come outside unfortunately.

Right now, my camera is just a little Fujifilm Finepix S5100. I have been using it for just over a year now. It isn't a bad little camera, but I am trying to save up to get a DSLR...probably Canon.

Some additional photos I worked on during lunch...
(After work I will be doing the Reptile House photos!!)

Hey, don't forget the Primate and Big Cat Houses!

There will be some Big Cat photos (my favorite subject to photograph at the zoo!), but I didn't get anything of any quality at the Primate house. Too many people to get close enough to get decent shots of anything.

Reptile House

Here are the good shots I took in the Reptile House:

I just love the expressions that camels do:

Little known fact: The Gaboon Viper is on breeding loan to the Milwaukee County Zoo from Packerfan4. :grin01:

:wavey: Thankyou so much for posting these! Not only does the city I'm living in now not have zoos (Eugene), but I grew up in the Milwaukee Zoo. This thread really makes me smile.
As long as you're in WI and on a zoo-animal-picturetaking-binge wanna head over to the Henry Vilas Zoo for me? When I lived in Madison the zoo was pretty shabby, one circular Monkey cage divided into different sections, and VERY small cat room with even smaller housing. The last time I visited it around 2 years ago the place was looking pretty good.
Thanks again, what a nice way to start off the morning!
