Yesterday was feeding day, so we got pics of everyone:
The first is our Lavender, we believe a female - her name is Barney
Next is Twizzler, or "normal" - possibly male
Next is Ethel, our Amel - female ... her sister Lucy looks exactly like her, only difference is in the markings on the head. Lucy is in shed right now
Next is Maize - bloodred motley - male
Last is our newest member of the family - sold to us as a 6 month old male snow - he appears to have a bit of lavender in him, but I'm not sure. No name yet, as we've only had him a week

He either does or he doesn't ;)...If he did he'd be a "Snopal" lol and it may be real hard to tell visibly; if he was het. for lavender there would be no way to tell unless you bred him to one :*)
 
Did you buy the bloodred motley as that? I'm used to seeing more diffusion on the sides, whereas the lateral patterning on your kiddo is clear as day.
 
Well Chris, I am planning to try to breed my snow & lavender when they are big enough, so I guess a test-run will tell us a lot huh?

I love my amels - they have awesome personalities. I got them from the same guy I got my possible bloodred motley from.

Shiari - he was sold to me as a bloodred motley. I did not buy him from the breeder though, I got him from a guy who says he bought him at the NARBC show in Dallas last Fall. He sold him to me pretty cheap, because he couldn't afford to feed him anymore. I got the Amels from him as well. I'll get some pictures of him today - hubby is home - and see if I can show some better shots of his colors/markings/belly.
 
If he sold you it pretty cheap, and didn't provide a receipt... I'm not so sure it's a bloodred motley. Both bloodred/diffuseds and motleys have clear bellies, so that won't help.

If you look at that link, you'll see several diffused motley examples. See how they don't have that crystal-clear striping down the side as seen on your kiddo?
 
I see what you mean, they are a lot different. Well, he's good-looking no matter what, and I'm still curious as to what kind of beautiful babies we can make... so I guess what he truly is will probably come out in breeding, with time. Hubby took some new pictures for me so we'll post those and see what you think as well. Thanks so much for your input! I'm new, but trying to learn as much as I can. I am totally fascinated by these guys!
 
Megan - I went to SMR website and looked at the morph gallery, since the guy I got my snake from said that's who he bought it from. I found "MY" snake in the photo album... sooo awesome! He is a Sunglow Motley, not a Bloodred. The picture in the album is my snake, I can tell by the markings. Thanks for bringing up the question so that I was able to research this... I really appreciate it!
 
I think sunglows are selectively bred amels, it looks like yours has black pupils, which would not make it amel. It is a nice bright motley though. Congrats on the nice snakes.
 
In my reading I thought the same thing. Check out this link though, on South Mountain Reptiles... I went through EVERY picture Don had, and I swear this is actually the snake I bought... the guy I got him from did say he bought him from Don. The markings on the sides & the back of the head are exactly like the guy I have, down to the heart on the neck right below the head... take a look... see what you think?

The pupils on that snake are different from yours. Red vs Black. Yours is a normal motley, not amel. Yours also doesn't have saddles that stay connected as far. The sunglow amel on that website has only 5 disconnected saddles before the vent area while yours begins the disconnect process much sooner. The sunglow on the website also has 22 or 23 perfect 'circles' whereas yours has only 17.
 
Thanks Megan - I guess I should learn to count! Well, I think we're getting closer though, definitely no bloodred. I'm going to keep looking and see what comes up
 
Remember that there is an *enormous* amount of variation in all the morphs. # 1 on your list should be 'normal motley', and a less likely number #2 would be hypo motley. Your list mostly ends there.
 
The more I've looked the more I agree. Like I said I'm new to this. It's been amazing the things I've learned so far. Thanks so much for your help! Nothing wrong with my guy being "normal" - he's still gorgeous!
