My first spidie moult!

It's Jager time!
Didn't I tell you all Supernova was super clever? Yep, well I peeked in her hobbit hole this morning to find a larger Supernova than I remembered all balled up, oh and look... ANOTHER Supernova beside her. Clever lass moulted sometime between 4am and 3pm. Everything intact, although shes a bit wobbly. I suspect she had just finnished when I went to check on her.

I never expected this moult at all, she even ate 2 nights before. I hadn't seen her out for a while though, so I was a little suspicious about that, shes always one for roaming around and webbing at night.

How long will it take for her to "harden" up and move around normally? Does she look ok to you guys who know your T's?

Heres the super big, super pretty, Supernova :dancer:

And some enlarged shots of her moult. Sorry they are so dark, but I wanted to use a higher aperture.

Cool! Was her back (thorax??) always light like that? I love her little red hairs.

Yup Nanci, when I got her she had that lovely salmon colouration. Although I think it has lightened with this moult.

It takes a while for her new exo to harden back up, when it does she will be a bit darker and more steady on her feet. She should me moving normally in 2-3 days and be ready to eat in a week or possibly a bit longer. Make sure not to bother her at all for the next 2 days, she is very delicate and soft right now.
Her back leg looks ok to me, its just so soft that it can bend in weird directions.

Is she a guaranteed female? if not then get a good pic of the inside of her belly skin for sexing.

Ah goood, I was just a wee bit worried about that. Thank goodness I gave her fresh water a wee light spray last night.

Shes not guaranteed female, but I'm not too bothered. I have kept the moult, which part do I photograph? lol

I can't find the bit on the skin you're talking about LOL! I'll just section each wee bit in that general area and photograph it all LOL

its possible its not attached to the exo anymore, often it gets ripped apart since its so delicate.
Don't worry about it, if you can get a good underneath shot of supernova some time then I can probably tell that way.
I like to know the sex so I have an idea of how long the spider will live.

I know... I had a mature male rosea. I did't know that until I saw him flipped over covered in a sperm web LOL. Yeah... he died soon after.

Lucky that you have access to the moult. My H. lividum girl molted in her burrow :crying: . I can see it down there but there's really no way to get at it without tearing the whole habitat apart.

Well I had a wee bit of trouble getting it, I had to wreck some of her webbing at the enterance of her hobbit hole :(
