My new Dragon :D

Allalaskan

The Crazy Alaskan
I haven't come up with a name for "him" yet. From what I seen online I think its a male but im not totally sure yet.

Any way, I got him from the same pet store I picked up Seth from. Their animals are usually pretty healthy.

Any ways, this is the Water Dragon. I know hes still pretty young.

His brown looks a lot darker in the pictures then it really is.

At the moment I have him in a 40 gallon breeder but have plans on building him a much bigger viv in the near future. I was looking at using an Armoire or something but so far the ones that would work great were more then what I am willing to pay for. Soooo, I may just build one from scratch. Which if I do im looking to build it to fit our shelf "hole" in the living room which is 2ft deep and 4 ft wide and 8 feet tall, so It will problulby be 2x4x6 possibly 7ft tall, but im not sure just yet. I also am wanting to have a good sized pool for him to have on the bottom.

Also I have not named this little guy, and am playing with some names but if you have any suggestions let me know :D

wow, 50 views and not a single comment lol. I thought we would have had a few people into Water Dragons.

I'll be honest, i know NOTHING about these guys but he or she sure is cute :D congrats on the new addition!

Thanks :D

They get pretty good sized. The females get around 2 feet long and the males around 3 feet long, granted about 2/3 that is tail haha.

This weekend as long as every thing goes as planned I should be starting to build a big cage for him. They need a pretty good sized cage when full grown so I plan on building a 6'6'' tall 3'10'' wide and 2feet deep cage that will fit into a shelf type space in my living room. And they loooooove to climb so he will have lots of climbing space. Also they need some kind of a "pond" in the bottom. A lot of people use cat pans so they can pull them out and clean them and put in fresh water every day but I have seen quite a few on youtube where people actualy have a full running fish tank in the bottom of the cage with a filter and every thing which is something I am looking into maybe doing but im not sure yet. They also have high humidity needs so I plan on setting up a humidifier that will be on a timer that will then be plumbed into the viv with pvc pipe.

I know he is going to need a more complex cage set up then any of my snakes lol, but I think hes worth it. They are very active reptiles and have quite the personality. Plus they are not nocturnal so he is up when we are and asleep when we are unlike some of my snakes that dont come out till its starts getting dark haha.

Yours looks quite a bit bigger then mine haha :D its a 40 gallon breeder.

Here are some pictures of the Temp cage I have him in atm until I can build his big one.

I picked up this humidifier from Walgreens and pulled the tip out of the whole and put the plastic hose in and used a piece of a walmart bag to "seal" it for now lol. Want to let this thing run for a few days before I go and use silicone on it and seal any thing in the hole.

Still tweeking with it to get it to hold the humidity where I want it.

That thing jumps the humidity up pretty quick, had to adjust the timer because it was jumping the gauge up to %99 lol. I think it is going to work pretty good in the big viv.

Any ways I think Im going to name him Draco. If he does turn out to be in fact a HE and not a SHE lol.

wow I messed that up, meant for it to say its a 40 gallon AFTER I said "Here are some pictures of the Temp cage I have him in atm until I can build his big one."

Congrats, hes looks really cool.
Does he have a temperament like your old one?

The other one I had didnt have a temperament, but he sure had personality! And yes this one seems to be just as much a character haha. He is different though, but still has quite the personality.

Atm im using a Repti Sun 5.0 and a Zilla 75 watt Incandescent basking light and at night im using a a Zilla Red 100 watt (not focused like the Zilla 75 watt) for his heat needs. At night the over all temp in the cage seems to stay right about 69f and during the day with the spot light around 73-7f, of course during the day the house is usually warmer then at night too. I am thinking though that when I build the big cage I may either add another heat lamp farther down or up grade from to a 100 watt if needed but we will see when that time comes.

Also I would like to add that I filled up the humidifier last night about 7pm, its 5:40pm here now and its just now at about half empty haha, and that was with it running on for 30 mins off for 30 mins, which I backed it off some to on for 30 (thats the lowest I can set it to run with the current timer Im using) and off for an hour.

The lid on the cage is wire so it is loosing humidity fast, and of course because he needs UVB I cant put a sheet of glass on the top to help hold it so when I build the next viv I plan on doing the ventilation much differently then like this.

haha, my camera isnt the best but I will try to get some pics and upload them here in a bit. Basically the whole was bigger then the hose, so I stuck the hose in and then plugged up the space around the hose with a piece of plastic I ripped off a walmart bag. I will take some pics of it in just a bit.
