My own little controversial topic... Just how "weird" are we?!

but onto the original topic... it depends on who you ask, whether we are weird or not. My mom is alright with the snakes and is actually starting to like them. To the point that I almost have her convinced to get one of her own. My dad, on the other hand, has no interest in them at all, refuses to touch them, and thinks I'm crazy for wanting them. They just creep him out. And, because he will NOT touch them, he still says they are slimy...

Really? It's just the opposite for me. My mom HATES 'em, but my dad had a boa when he was 16... until it bit him. Then he got rid of it and never had another snake again. Until I was 17. LOL.

In recent news...

Okay, kids... gather 'round the circle. It's story time.

Today my parents stopped by my house seeking a few coats my sister (who spends weekends with me) had left here and some other miscellaneous stuff. I told them come on by. My mother couldn't find the one coat Jess insisted she left here and I said "it may be in her bedroom closet" and so off my mother goes.

I neglected to tell her about Adelina.

Adelina is my 4-5' (no solid measure on her yet, but yeah, she's big) African house snake I got about a month ago. I have her in quarantine in a 20L on a dresser in my sisters bedroom and my parents have never seen her.

My mother walks in the room, looks out the window and turns to face the closet and then goes "OH MY GOD! WHAT THE H&&& IS THAT?!"

Ah... the ten year old boy in me was jumping up and down.

I said "My new snake."

"How long is it?"

"SHE is about five feet."

At which point she proceeded to question my sanity and tell me how disgusting and ugly she is. My father walks in to see what the fuss is about and says "She's not ugly... kinda pretty actually."

So I pulled her out-- mom ran-- and dad touched her. "You gotta feel this... it's so smooth... like silk."

Finally managed to get mom to touch her too, so was a successful day all around.

But the mother still thinks I am either going to be strangled by a snake in my sleep, have the neighors call the cops on me, or die of some horrific snake disease.

In any case... I thought of this thread. :grin01:
