hi all,

this will consist of series of several post as the pictures wont all fit on one post so please can you refrain from posting until after the post with a couple pictures of a couple of my rats, thanks.

The first pictures are of the whole of the shed, the rats are in the large cages with either 1.2 or 1.3 with the large cage on left underneath the bench containing 1.4.

There are mice in the rack of cages in the back left.

The two dustbins just inside the doors contain food and wood shavings, all other supplies are either stored in the cupboards or under the mouse rack.

These pictures are just a taster in some of cages of some of the colours of mice, i have satins and piebalds in most of the colours as well. There are either 1.4 or 1.5 mice in most of these cages with a mixture of assorted cages, some of the cages are just a little over crowded but i haven't quite got round to dealing with them yet...

These have only recently started appearing in my collection, they have a much longer coat, you can see in the pictures a haze of longer hairs all across them. i have had this affect in Piebalds, Whites, Sandys and some silvery ones, does this have a name?

These Pictures are of my Dwarf Russian Hamster, i am think he is a winter white but he's a bit young to know yet.

We adopted him and he was called Lucas, so that's his name still.

He is adorable and very cuddly, he is a little bigger than a mouse at the moment but with a much thicker coat.

i am hoping to collect some girls for him in the next week.

awe cute hamsters!! I don't know if I could feed those... probably yes if they bite though

And Finally my rats, i have 17 rats in total, a couple of those produced pinkies over the weekend but i don't know how many yet. I've just taken a picture of two of them because those came out of about 20 pictures and i gave up after that.

Thanks for the links Ghosthousecorns, the russian hamsters have never bitten me yet, not even tried to.

the one female rat got defensive over her young though and bit me on the one joint in my finger and i could hear the cartilage crunch in it, it bled A LOT as well, and the side of my finger below that is numb so i presume she managed to cut a nerve as well!!!

That is a nice set-up and very nice coloring! That last mouse, I believe the term for the way the way the color looks is called merling. So, its a dove(?) merle. There are merle rats that I would love to get my hands on!

what agreat setup, I live in spain and have been breeding my own mice for quite a few months now but all my mice are in glass vivariums since we made the snakes new wooden ones, they all seem to like them and have plenty of room to run about. Once I start getting overcrowded I either freeze mine all the local petshop has started taking them. I am not being a big head but my quality of mice is a lot better then there normal supplier but when we saw their set up I am not surprised they had there mice in these tiny wooden boxes with a tiny bit of wire on the sides and no room for them to move, its nice to see people take the time and effort to look after there rodents at the end of the day they are still animals.

hi,

i regularly take batches of mice into the local petshops when they want some as well. The snakes are growing so much better and looking so much healthier than they were when being fed the frozen mice the petshops stock.

yes when I took my last batch they already had some in and you could see the difference in the stock mine have lovely coats and just look healthier and whn I went back she said that mine had all gone first. This is why I started breeding my own, luckily mine are outside in the utility room, I also try and dwindle the boys down asap to eliminate a bit of smell as well.

I keep some of my mice of certain colours together. When I first bought my breeder mice, they were pretty much a mix and match of mongrels LOL, but seems now that I have seperated them, certain traits seem to be dominant in the litters. I have noticed that if you use a recycled newspaper catlitter for the bedding for the mice/rats the smell is reduced quite a bit. It is somewhat expensive but since I breed only 1.4 mice in a single tank and I have to do it in my apartment its worth it.
