My Rodant Production shed...

On the topic of "cold" and rodents, especially mice, I never worry about the low temp, as long as it isn't below freezing for long.

Thanks people, the first post i found mildly insulting but i can live with that.

the later posts i just began to find amusing.

thanks all -1 ;)

i was just trying to remember what thread it was which Wade made up his exquisite phrase in... then i remembered, and remembered who it was in conjunction to and what the topic was. That thought train made me chuckle.

The Hardest part of it all is deciding who will become breeders and who snake food.

thanks

before the heater went in there i think it must have gotten quite cold overnight and i had about 5 casualties in the mice, about 5 just weaned mice in their own box obviously didn't have enough body heat to survive so that is when i moved the heater in there. i also heard that if it is too cool then the mice wont breed??? or not to the same extent, is this true?

Mice are a lot more sensitive to heat than to cold. If the temp goes over 80* F they will stop breeding and if it gets much hotter than that they will start dying.

On the cold side they do pretty well but if it gets much lower than 40* F they will slow the production down. If it starts freezing they will survive it but you will start having problems with your watering system.

So really as long as the temps are reasonable then its not really a problem either way.

thanks for the information.

Eh, even when I try to be helpful, I have a knack for pissin' people off. You'll get over it by spring.

When I was into showing mice, we never would have had them living like that. But this is a whole new neighborhood, now isn't it?

Good luck with your mice.

Adam.

Thank you, I'm sure the mice will appreciate you wishes of luck although personally I'm more into the philosophy of making my own luck... ;)

I am sure you mice love the conditions they are in, perhaps you could make you own thread where we can hero worship you for you fantastic mouse keeping skills...?

To be honest, the first thing you did was tell him his mice were kept badly. What do you expect? Try making the helpful suggestions without the insults.

I didn't say they were kept badly. I said the cages were cramped and dirty for my taste, which they are. I prefer to give my mice more space and cleaner bedding. That's my personal choice, and I don't appreciate being crucified for it.

Adam, you are real quick to point out flaws in everyone you encounter. I have noticed that if anyone makes a suggestion to you, you feel like you’re being crucified or they are being rude. How does that work? Are you the only person here who is allowed to criticize? You don’t have any problem being rude to everyone else. Why do you expect them to treat you differently? I find most people treat me very fairly, maybe that is because that is the way I try to treat them.

Lol. Even when I do treat people nicely, they jump all over me. I've given up trying to make friends. I don't want friends who only see the bad in people.

Well then you are in the right place because there isn’t anyone here that only sees the bad in people. I’m on this forum a lot and I only see friendly helpful people here. It’s very rare for anyone here to be rude. I must warn you however; the people here are very intolerant to rude people and will quickly let you know if they feel you are being rude.

well if you think that his setup is all dirty and over cramped then why not post some of your pictures so we can see how you do it!!! My mice are in some large vivariums but even in them they get crowded before I can ween them off.

As i said, i you wish everyone to appreciate how ell you keep you mice, post your OWN thread to tell everyone and then we can also see how well they are.

thanks everyone else.
