Ok...I haven't even purchased my snake ye, because i want to make sure i have everything needed to properly take care if him, and will be visually appealing to me as well.

I am wanting to get a front opening terriaum, and it seem the only one i can find are the ones made by exo-terra. I played with one today my local pet shop and they "seem" to be well made. Is there any other types i should be looking at? I want to limit the escapes as you can imagine. My mother would just kill the snake, sad huh!

here is a pic

Thanks in advance!

 It's nice to see people do there homework first!

For the money, it's hard to beat the Exo-Terra line.

I think they are the best make, everything i have is from them, exept my thurmostat heatmat and viv, they seem a big company within the reptile hobby, so eather that or look on ebay, you can get some really nice/cheap vivs from there that are new.. i got mine new, in packaging and it was all great : )

Those look nice, but how big are they as far as floor space goes? That one looks like it would be too small for an adult snake; so you'd have to upgrade at some point. But if you're getting it to house your snake until it gets bigger then it looks good!

There aren't any (ready-made) that I know of other than the Exoterra ones. I was actually looking at those, but like blueapplepaste said, the floor space is way too small for an adult corn. I also rejected them because they're *much* more expensive than a standard aquarium (or my new favorite, steralite containers).

Other options-
There are these things called tanktoppers or aquarium toppers. Basically, they make a standard size aquarium into a front opening viv. It's difficult to explain, but it's a piece of acrylic (with a door) that fits on an aquarium like a lid, and is held on. Then the aquarium goes on it's side, with the lid facing front. Your other option is probably to make your own out of melanine. (You can do a serach to find threads or internet sites on how to do this).

Vision Products makes this thing called a "Visionarium" that is 30"Lx12"Hx12"W, roughly the same as a 20L aquarium. It has front sliding doors, and vents so they still breath when stacked.

Check them out at lllreptile.com. They are about $60 each, plus shipping...

I think I'm gonna pick up 3 or 4 of them...

If you are housing hatchlings in the visionariums, be careful of the sliding doors. I hear they can escape through the gap between the doors.

Thanks for the quick replies. The visionarium looks like what i wanted. I like them boot but the visionarium fits the college student pocket book. If the only thing i would have to worry about is hatchlings escaping, i am cool. I am wanting to get an older snake anyway.

Yea, I heard that too. But with the locks that are available, it shouldn't be a problem.

We use an exoterra vivarium for the tree frogs. All their models are very vertical--agree with the above posts that there's not enough floor space in there.

But they are a well built viv. Easy to clean, maintain, etc.

The two problems we encountered with the Visionarium are that babies can get out very easily and that finding a hood with lights that fits in the narrow channel on top was a nightmare. I would say don't bother with lights and get heat tape or the ready made heat mats (www.thebeanfarm.com) and use that for heating. They are nice vivs.

I've heard of toppers for adding vertical space, and screen tops, but I had never heard of this. Where can I find one? It sounds perfect for what I want to do, and I'm kinda cheap, so I like the idea of picking up my tank at a yard sale for a few bucks and then adding an inexpensive "lid" that becomes a front door. I'll be googling, but would appreciate any links you can provide!

Thanks,

Heather

I have been looking for this as well, i can't find any info beyond this tread. As of now i am going with the Visionarium. I would like to see one this "toppers" before i buy.

Check with a place called FCA (First Class Aquatics). We have a few of them with geckos in them. I beleive they were origanly made for Poison Dart Frogs. I'll get a pic up in a little bit.

That could be it, but without a picture, I'm not sure. I tried googling and no luck. I'll look some more, but I promise they exist. :)

I know someone on here was recently selling some of them.

i just sent FCA an email to get some more information and picture. I am liking that cube as well. If i was in dart frogs, it would be right, but i don't want anything that could possibly kill me.

Here are a few pic's. I coundn't' find my pic's, so these are from the DendroBoard.com . What you do is take and silicon them onto a standard aquarium (ours are on 10's and a 20 gallon). Then the tank can really be turned in any way.
