New Addition....Crested Gecko.....*Pics*

The One an Only Kuro....
So earlier today i finally got my Christmas money from my aunt. So i was thinking on what i wanted and i thought about the two hatchling crested geckos that my local reptile shop.

Yesterday i was doing research on cresteds...and i was doing it just for something to do while i was waiting for my friend to come online, and i found out that cresteds are really easy to care for...the only thing is their humidity...they need 60-90% humidity which means you need to spray their enclosure 1-3 times per day to keep up humidity.

They eat crickets and fruit(all but citrus) in the form of mashed or baby food(I'm talking about the fruit...not the crickets). And i read that cresteds are starting to give leopard geckos a run for their money in being the most popular gecko in the pet trade.

I don't know what sex he/she is but I've named him/her Kyanite(K-eye-uh-night) after the gem called Kyanite. He/she is either a really dark red or red-brown in color with a light red brown spotted belly...his tail is the same color as his body and has this lighter on his tail as well. The pics lighten his/her color a whole lot none of them show his true colors...sadly.

The pics....(sorry if their blurry camera is not the best and i took these quickly so i could put him/her in his/her enclosure so he/she could de-stress and start getting used to his/her new home.)

Introducing Kyanite the Crested Gecko....

Nice addition, congrats! I just got my first crested earlier this year, and he is quite easy to care for. Wait until you start to see the color changes when s/he gets all fired up. BIG difference if you haven't noticed yet. The only problem I have with them, is they are big jumpers, so gotta be really careful when handling so they don't end up mis-judging distance or height and take a nose-dive. As far as feeding, if you haven't heard about it yet, there's a crested gecko food mix that can be used for the entire diet. No need to feed crickets or mix in other stuff as it's a complete meal. You can find it in Petco (and probably any other big pet store) or online. T-Rex Crested Gecko Diet (can also buy in larger quantities online from http://www.superfoods.repashy.com/, who's the original creator).

Very cute!! I'm considering getting a crestie, or maybe a pair. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Blutengel- he's very adorable...but he likes to bite...thought his cuteness makes up for the bitey-ness. I love it when he climbs straight up one of the glass walls of his enclosure...you'd think he'd slip but since he has velcro like pads on his feet...which lets cresties climb almost any surface.

Nanci- he is very cute and very small...he's only about 2-2 1/2" from nose to tip of tail...when full grown he'll be 7-10" long. The house is fine if not a bit small...i like being able to go to Tails N' Scales whenever i want now that we no longer live an hour away from it.

Duff- i'll look into that crestie diet you posted about. i don't believe i've seen him fired up yet...but i'd like to what he looks like fired up.

Plissken- very very cute he is! you wont go wrong with a crestie or two their easy to care for and very cute.

Yeah, I heard they were really easy to care for. I have a quick question (sorry if this is getting too off topic)... do they make much noise? I understand when they're in groups they do communicate verbally, but is it very loud? I don't mind quiet background sounds...

Boy do I smell trouble!!!

Did the horses have to move, or did you have them boarded?

Plissken- a group of them will make noise(males looking for females) but 1 shouldn't, i've had mine a day and he hasn't made a single noise.

Nanci- *evil smile* mom says if i want anymore reptiles i have to pay for them myself. The horses will be boarded at a local stables about 5 miles from our house. John(owner of Tails N' Scales) doesn't have any openings right now but he said he might during the summer when some of his workers go off for vacation.

very nice! I love the permanent smiles that are stuck on their faces.

just a little photo tip. If you are using a digital cam look for the "macro focus" option. It's usually a little icon that looks like a flower. It set the camera to focus on very close objects lets you take photos from as little as 2 inches away. Then you can get the extreme close ups and have it nice an clear.

antsterr- thanks for the compliment on Kyanite. with my camera it doesn't have a little flower icon...but it does have a button with a lightning bolt shaped arrow on that does what you say the flower on other cameras do(i tried it out and it worked...so this should mean no more blurry pics and having to have my photo subject enough distance away from the camera so the flash doesn't mess up the pic).

Boethon

Nanci- the lightning bolt arrow doesn't do anything to the flash...once i pushed it and did the yesy run with i was able to get within 5 inches of what i was photographing without it getting blurry.

Cute! What size tank do you have him in? I was considering getting two snakes this year, but I may just do an MBK and two new lizards, I am thinking a crested and a leo would fit the bill. Soooo cool. Congrats!

Hypancistrus- right now Kyanite is in a 10 gallon...and will be moved to a 20 high or 29 high when he gets big. Cresties benefit more from height then length(kinda like chameleons).
