New boa!

RobbiesCornField

Bring it on.
Please welcome Napoleon Bonaparte to the family! Napoleon is a 1.0 Albino/Sunglow (the guy said he didn't remember if he was a sunglow, because he's getting ready to shed). What's you guys' opinions?

WOW!!!! Now HE is gorgeous!!
I don't think I could be any more envious!! haha
I think it would be safe to say he def. might be a sun glow if his color is still that intense coming on a shed, but I'm no boa morph expert haha.

Teehee! Thanks! Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, color wise. But I don't pretend to be an expert.

erm... sunglows should cost a deal more. Salmon isn't a trait that doesn't effect the price.
I hope it is a sunglow though. Sunglows retain much of their orange coloration, leaving a beautiful adult while your common albino's oranges fade with time... so the snake turns yellowish.

Great snake! :bird:

Thanks!

The breeder and I had an agreement. He sold me an albino boa back in November that died of IBD in January. After providing a copy of the necropsy, he said I could have a boa of my choice from his '08 litters, to compensate for the vet bills, necropsy, and loss of a year of growth towards breeding. This little guy just happened to be my favorite, but that's only because he didn't have any snows or moonglows...

That's good. I'm glad the breeder was kind enough to do that for you :)

Gorgeous boa, btw

Thanks! Yes, I did get a really good deal out of it, but unfortunately, the conditions in which he keeps the animals are awful.
So on that note:
If you EVER hear of a company called Steel City Constrictors, avoid them at all costs! Here's my story, and the reasonings behind future avoidance:
Back in November, I purchased a female '07 Albino boa from Dan at SSC at the Rocky Mountain Reptile Expo. Barely a month later, she went into her shed cycle. However, she did not shed. After increasing her humidity, and many many nights soaking her, she still did not shed. It was around this time in December (right around the 30th) that she stopped eating. On January 3rd, a veterinary visit ensued. He recommended raising the humidity in her cage. After giving her a clean bill of health (mentioning that she was a little underweight, but nothing to be concerned about), he sent me home. Less than 24 hours later, after I got home from work, she was dead. I put her in a rubbermaid sandwich box and refrigerated her body. A few days later, I took her down to the Colorado State University's veterinary school and had a necropsy performed. The necropsy results revealed that she had chronic Inclusion Body Disease of Boids (more commonly known as IBD). Because it was a chronic infection, the disease had been present for more than 3 months (longer than she had been in my collection). After revealing this information to Dan, he offered me my pick of any boa in his '08 litters. I went down to pick up the new boy today. When I got there, the breeding "facility" was a small building with no thermostat, however, inside the building was easily over 100 degrees (it was 95 degrees outside, and even hotter inside). All of the larger boas were kept in appropriately sized cages, but with additional heating. Non-feeding baby boas were kept together in a large boamaster cage with several live mice. Feeding babies were all kept in the same type of cage, but separate from the non-feeders. He mentioned that he had some ball pythons and a few other boas I might be interested in another room, so I asked to see them. What I saw was atrocious. Several larger ball pythons (probably '05-'06's) were being kept in bp hatchling racks, as well as several mid sized boas. Needless to say, I took my boy and got out. Hopefully, he will have a better life than the others left in the facility. I just wish I had the money and the space to buy all of their animals.

Ugh... I hate it when breeders do stuff like that.... they should know better, right?

I really, really hope that your new boa has a long healthy life with you. I feel bad that the other snakes are forced to live like that, but sometimes you can't do much about it :(

I just wish I could go back and get them all...

Looks like it COULD be a sunglow.
Nice boa! I like them a lot, wish they stayed small, though.
Post pics after he sheds...

Thanks! And of course there will be pictures after he sheds! Lots and lots and lots and lots of pictures. lol.

I absolutely love pictures... it's one of the main reasons why I sit around on this forum all day... looking to see if there are any new pictures! And no, I don't have a life :p

But I do love snakes... and looking at them. Boas are especially beautiful

I have no idea what exactly went down with your snake.
However, sunglows are priced -a lot- higher than your day to day albino.
Not to mention moonglows and other such morphs.
You're invited to check out boa breeder's pages.

To me it seems unrealistic, but God knows.
You'll know as he matures.

Bah- most important thing is- it's your favorite and I am not shocked as to why. Beautiful little thing, best of luck with him!

I guess I don't see the point you're trying to make about the price, because the compensation was also the loss of a year for bringing to breeding size, the vet bill and the necropsy bill.

Beautiful new snake can't wait to see it after it sheds :D

What a cool pick up! Though I would be a bit hestitant to get another one from that breeder after hearing about the IBD and conditions, it's going to mean one heck of a quarantine period. Will you be able to get this one tested to make sure it does not also carry that disease? It is a beautiful boa though, congrats!

Actually that explains things quite a bit.
Best of luck :)
